Saturday at Food Voyageur is not for the weak.
While Melbourne is sleeping in, we’re already in the kitchen before sunrise — packing deliveries, stacking cupcakes, checking orders, and making sure every cake leaves perfect.
The drivers start loading. The boxes line up. The coffee kicks in.
Then it’s straight into finishing last-minute cakes — piping buttercream, placing cherries, adding ribbons, fixing final details. Every cake still made by hand. No shortcuts.
By midday, the storefront is full. Pick-up customers coming through, cupcakes flying out the door, last-minute walk-ins, questions, celebrations, chaos.
The front looks pretty.
The back is organised madness.
Saturdays are long. Fast. Intense.
But this is what building a cake brand looks like.
Not just baking cakes.
Managing pressure.
Leading a team.
Serving hundreds of customers.
Delivering on every promise.
And somehow doing it all over again next week.
The reality behind the pretty cakes.
