As we get older, life may slow down, but that doesn’t mean you have to. In fact, regular movement and exercise become even more important, especially when paired with a healthy diet.

Movement supports strength, bone health, joint health, heart health and balance, all of which can help maintain independence as we age.

The good news is that movement doesn’t have to mean long walks or hours at the gym. It can look like aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates, dancing or following a seated exercise program.

While we can’t join you for your daily movement, we can prepare and deliver a range of nutritious and delicious meals so you can feel confident that you’re fuelling your body with what it needs.

There are some exciting updates to the packaging for our meals.

Your meals now come in new trays made from 90% sugarcane, a renewable material, making them sturdier for delivery and a more environmentally friendly option compared to traditional plastic trays.

They’re designed to go straight from the fridge to the oven or microwave, making mealtimes simple and reliable.

We have also introduced clearer labels and a more consistent look across the range, making meals easier to recognise in your freezer.

The tray includes a thin lining for strength and food safety, while still significantly reducing plastic use overall.

Many people don't realise their Support at Home package may help fund assistive technology used during mealtimes. Depending on your package, this can include modified cutlery, specialised cups and adapted kitchen utensils.

As we get older, it’s common for digestion to change too. The good news is there are small, everyday ways to help support healthy digestion and gut health.

Fibre can play an important role and is found in foods like:
• whole grains such as oats, brown rice and wholemeal bread
• vegetables like broccoli and leafy greens
• legumes including beans and lentils
• fruits such as apples and berries

Drinking enough water is important too, as staying hydrated also helps support digestion. Meals like vegetable soups can be a comforting way to increase both fluid and fibre intake.

Knowing what nutrients are going into your body is important, but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

All of our meals include nutritional information on the packaging, and our team is always happy to answer questions before you purchase. We also use a range of icons across our menus to make choosing meals even easier.

Each icon has its own colour and symbol and appears next to meals on our menu to help identify options that suit different dietary needs and preferences. These include heart-friendly, gluten free, low in salt and halal-certified meals.

They’re designed to make meal choices simpler and easier to navigate. Each meal also includes kilojoule and calorie information listed alongside the name.

With nearly nine in ten Australians over the age of 65 living with one or more long-term health conditions, it got us thinking about what accessibility can look like as we get older.

It can look like being able to get out into the community and stay connected with the people around us.

It can look like a website that’s simple and easy to use, without feeling confusing or overwhelming. And when extra support is needed, it means having someone there to help.

It can look like assistive technology and support at home that helps older people move around safely, manage everyday tasks more easily, and continue living independently for as long as possible.

At Tender Loving Cuisine, we play a small part through meal preparation and delivery supported by a caring team. But creating a more accessible future takes all of us.

May we all continue helping build communities where people feel supported, included and able to live well at every age.
