i am agatha follows agatha, a bristly painter fleeing her own darkness, to rural new mexico to live the reclusive life of a small-town curmudgeon. it is there she meets alice, a mild widow with a deepening case of dementia who keeps steady vigil at her daughter’s backyard grave. the novel delves into themes of love, grief, memory, artistic ambition, and the complexities of aging and autonomy, particularly for women. tw: grief, death

as always, this month’s pick comes from , who does the deepest dives and somehow finds the most interesting threads to pull every time 🙂‍↕️🫡

the wall was written in the early 1960s and later translated from german into english, following a woman suddenly cut off from the world by an invisible barrier, left to survive alone in the austrian alps. spare, eerie, introspective… very much i who have never known men vibes.

she’s bubbly, she’s a little bit bitter, a little bit sweet and she pairs perfectly with espresso or matcha. have it as is with ice, tonic water + espresso or matcha, or add a flavour. (great with grapefruit or blackberry raspberry syrup) ^^ STAFF FAV, THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE US DRINKING.. JOIN THE COVEN 👀

🌅 americano sunrise (iced only)
when you want something refreshing but also need a coffee. ice, orange juice + espresso (you’ll have to trust us on this one)

⚡ dark + stormy (iced only)
unofficially dubbed the shane hollander special. you’ve got your canada dry ginger ale, you’ve got your espresso, add some ice and watch it explode when we put a straw in it (jk we’ll wait a minute 🤭)

we’re heading into march with a new pick chosen by the ever-thoughtful 😇

emily r. austin () is a canadian author and one of shannon’s all-time favourites. some of you might already know her from her debut novel ‘everyone in this room will someday be dead’, and we’re so excited to be reading her newest work together (!!!)

and since we somehow always end up getting a little political at book club 🙂‍↕️, we figured we might as well jump straight into a topic that’s far too close to reality and very much actually happening in some places. cool cool cool 🫤

‘is this a cry for help’ follows a librarian who becomes the target of a book-banning campaign. it blends dark humour with anxiety, censorship, and the stress of caring deeply in a world that would really prefer you didn’t. timely, funny, and extremely discussion-ready.
