2025, a year that seems out of some future sci-fi story of my youth. What will happen? Well, whatever happens we wish you a healthy and fruitful year. We are going to celebrate 2025 with another of our all you can drink tea parties. 2:00–5:00pm on Friday, Jan 3. Only 5€ for a seat and then you can drink with us over many cups of some of our finest and most celebrated brews. Seats are limited of course so ya snooze you loose but come whenever. We’ll do our best to squeeze you in. What a nice way to start the year with friends and flowing tea as we discuss topics good and bad, happy and glad, boring and rad, perhaps even sad; as long as we can say we feel our emotions freely. So, uh, hope to see you there!

Horaido Kyobancha (蓬莱堂京番茶) aka premium bancha. Not a lot of caffein but a lot of flavor. Good for days when you don’t want too much stimulation. I have always enjoyed bancha. It’s made for daily drinking. Everyday life, sipping away as you go about your day. It’s strange how we treat the everyday as if it’s banal and to be whiled away. There’s only so many everyday moments allotted to a person in life. Gotta make the most of them and doing that probably entails just letting them be ordinary, banal everyday moments. I guess it’s like ontological nondualism. How facile and, dare I say, banal? Really that’s all very boring, let’s just while away the time. Anyway, this guy is a tea I like to drink and maybe you do too, or will, or won’t. No one knows until they try.

Sometimes you didn’t quite get enough sleep and the sincere and the simulacra blur taunting you. What is the real deal and what is just so much pretty fluff? Well, my friend, that’s a good time for some Yangbi Qingxin Oolong (漾濞清心烏龍). The flavor on this guy always gives me an unvarnished trip to reality, earnest and wonderful. A flavor that lingers in the throat. Almost like that perfumed quart of aged teas, but this is not aged at all. This Yangbi teas are some of our favorite in the collection. Always brings a smile and appreciation for life where such things grow from this Yunnan mountains jutting from this green Earth. I think the description on the website ends with “you gotta try this” and, I still agree.

Keeping with the theme from yesterday’s post, here’s another guy that’s been aging a lil while now. A 2017 Muzha Tieguanyin that’s now seven years old. Not bad, not bad. The Jin Xuan took on a more delicious flavor if you ask me. Still, a charming dude for sure. Every bird has its song, if you will.

We usually keep a portion of the tea we offer sealed for aging. Here’s a Jin Xuan milk oolong that had been aging sealed for six years now. It’s gone from the bright, creamy notes one usually finds in good Jin Xiuan to a deep, complex flavor with that signature perfumed flavor (perfumed is the only way I can think of to describe it) of an aged tea. Still hits the creaminess but in a more nuanced way. Aged tea is so interesting. Of course, this guy is still a baby as far as aging goes but definitely a delightful little darling.

Wild Yunxian Hongcha. Fits perfectly with antique Bavarian ceramics. But who cares about the vessel? The taste and the tea is what matters. Everything else is just extra. And extra without enough is just not enough. Superfluous hyperbole? Saturday musings? Who knows! A damn fine cup of tea though 😌

A cake of 1990 Lao Ban Zhang sheng puerh. We take this out once a year and check in with it. This year it’s returning sweetness (huigan) hit us immediately and kept lingering in our mouth and throat cup after cup.
