The D-Day map room located at Southwick House which served as General Eisenhower’s forward headquarters for planning Operation Overlord.

The room is preserved with its original, massive wooden wall map, constructed like a giant jigsaw puzzle by the Chad Valley toy company, still set to H-Hour, D-Day. It was here that Allied commanders made the ultimate decision to launch the Normandy landings 82 years ago.

May 17th: This day in 1943, the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress “Memphis Belle” completed its 25th combat mission over Europe, a milestone few bomber crews survived in WWII.

After returning home, the aircraft and crew toured the US to help sell war bonds and boost morale on the home front. Today, Memphis Belle is preserved at the National Museum of the USAF.

Picked up a couple of bargains at the Rural Life Living Museum Village at War today. A mint condition copy of The 1940s House and a set of delicious Berylware tea cups and saucers. 🫖☕️
