Your Monday check in

Working as an early childhood leader manager is an up hill struggle sometimes. The constant weight of responsibility, the petty drama and dealing with staff dynamics.

The pressure to keep all the balls juggling, plates spinning all while remaining up beat, happy and that person everyone can go to, even if your own energy tank is running on low or absolute empty.

It’s a lonely place, an isolating role and it often feels like there is nobody who truly understands how this weight of responsibility actually feels.

But guess what I do understand

I understand those feeling because I ran, owned and managed multiple settings for 27 years.

That’s why I started the ‘Lead with Heart courage and confidence membership

That’s why I offer individual coaching, support to other leaders, managers and owners

This isn’t about compliance or legislation this is about keeping you supported, having someone by your side to navigate challenges and offer strength and encouragement when you’re in need.

Above or below the line?

When leaders are forced into survival mode, their teams operate below the line. It's time to stop managing tasks and start leading people.

When you are just trying to survive the day, you stop coaching your people.

You start managing tasks.
Here is exactly what happens next, and why it forces the entire team "Below the Line":

Are we running Early Childhood Centres… or compliance factories? 🏭

Lately, I’ve been talking to so many incredible ECE directors, owners, and managers.

These are brilliant, dedicated leaders, yet almost all of them are completely overwhelmed.

The system has them stuck on a daily conveyor belt of jobs, paperwork, and crisis management.
They are exhausted, running on pure survival mode. 😭

And because the system is broken, we are seeing the trickle-down effect on the floor:

❌ Rushed, hurried routines where connection is sacrificed just to get through the schedule.

❌ Environments that either become chaotic plastic warzones or sterile, uninspiring voids.

❌ Educators wrapping adult-directed compliance in a bow because that's all standard training taught them to do.

❌ Identical, cookie-cutter "fridge art" where children are asked to conform instead of create.

❌Educators patrolling environments, like prison wardens instead of pausing, connecting and being WITH children.

This isn't early childhood. It’s a systemic survival loop. 🔄

When the system forces leaders into survival mode, it's incredibly hard to keep a team operating "Above the Line."

The poor quality of standard, entry level training has left educators lacking the deep passion, confidence, and best practices needed to nurture a child's nervous system.

But Tony Robbins says it best: "If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten."

It is time for us to help our leaders draw a line in the sand.

✅We need to give directors the breathing room to stop managing tasks and start leading people.

✅We need to support them to raise quality standards, detox environments, turn rushed routines into meaningful rituals, and call educators up to a higher standard of ownership.

✅To the ECE owners, managers and directors who want to reclaim their centres, inject passion back into their teams, and fiercely protect the magic of childhood:

You do not have to fight this systemic battle alone.

Turning complaints into constructive conversations.

It is completely fine to have a grumble now and then, this job is hard work!

But there is a big difference between a temporary vent and a Negative N***y who just loves to stay stuck in the problem.🌀

Next time a team member brings you a big bag of negativity about a situation, try using this simple phrase ……….

EG
“I hear that this is frustrating for you. What is one thing we could do to make it better?"

It gently pushes them out of the complaint loop and into problem solving mode.

It puts the responsibility back on them to help build the culture, not just critique it.

Have you tried this approach before?

As a manager, your office can sometimes feel like a confessional booth for Energy Vampires. 🧛

They come in, tilt their head, and pour all their worries, gossip, and complaints right into your left ear,
leaving you feeling absolutely depleted by 11 am.😩🤯😱

Remember: you are a leader, not a sponge. It is okay to love your team and still protect your own sanity.

Try setting a gentle boundary next time: "I’ve got five minutes to chat through this with you, and then I really need to finish these funding forms."

How do you protect your own energy when the vampires are circling?😱🫣

Remembering the heart of early childhood. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Our sector is facing plenty of challenges at the moment, but if we lose our joy, we lose everything.

The children deserve to be surrounded by laughter, silliness, and adults who love what they do.

A positive culture isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It is about deciding that despite the paperwork and the pressure, we are going to choose joy today.

When was the last time your team had a proper, belly-laugh together?

What was the silly moment that triggered it?

Let's share some funny stories to brighten up the feed today!👇🏽
