Decaf Decaf! If you need a stable, reliable espresso decaf that delivers cup after cup, this is the one for you. Our Colombia Sugarcane EA Decaf is sourced from selected smallholder producers in Huila and decaffeinated at origin using the natural Sugarcane EA process. Processing the coffee in Colombia not only makes use of a locally abundant resource, but also reduces the coffee's carbon footprint by removing the need for it to be shipped elsewhere for decaffeination before roasting.

The Sugarcane EA process is gentle on the coffee, helping to preserve its natural sweetness, structure and character. The result is a beautifully balanced cup with notes of honey, cherry and toffee. Full of flavour, without the caffeine.

Suggested espresso recipe:
18-19g in
36-42g out
1:2 ratio
28-36 second extraction

Black Cherry Liqueur,

Basque Cheesecake
This lot comes from The Coffee Gardens, working with producer Norman Mukuru to bring coffees from Mount Elgon to the UK.

With nearly 20 years of experience, Norman has become known for his work in natural processing. At The Coffee Yard, his drying centre in the foothills of Mount Elgon, he sources cherries from Sironko, Mbale, Bulambuli and Kapchorwa. Since 2018, he has focused on refining fermentation and drying techniques to develop more expressive and distinctive flavour profiles.

WHY RISO?

For years we've commissioned artists, funded projects and supported our local and creative communities through Hundred House. We wanted to bring that relationship closer to the product itself and setting up our in-house Riso studio over the last couple of years allows us to do exactly that.

Now every Freak & Unique release combines remarkable coffee with original artwork produced by us, here in the roastery. The farmers are celebrated; the artists are celebrated; and we raise the bar on funding projects and all those who support us through collaborations, by buying our coffees, become part of the story.

MONTEBLANCO - FREAK & UNIQUE XXI

Some coffees make you stop and smile and this is one of them.

Produced in Palestina, Huila, this remarkable lot is processed using an extended fermentation method incorporating citrullus fruit nectar, including watermelon and melon, alongside lactobacillus and saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer’s yeast). The process is designed to enhance natural sweetness and elevate Brix levels, resulting in a complex and expressive cup profile.

Cherries ferment for 190 hours before being depulped, thoroughly washed and dried on parabolic beds for 10–15 days. Grown in Palestina, southern Huila, this coffee benefits from a distinctive microclimate within one of Colombia’s most dynamic producing regions. The result is a cup unlike anything else on our shelves: Watermelon, stewed peach and fruit salad!

Freak & Unique has always been about more than coffee. For the relaunch, every artwork is printed in our in-house Riso studio using a layered print process that produces rich textures, vibrant colours and subtle imperfections unique to each print.

Created exclusively for this release by , every artwork is individually signed and produced in a limited edition of just 150.

Supporting the arts sits at the heart of what we do - for Freak & Unique, £2 from every box sold goes directly into an artist fund for Nicholas to realise a future arts project of his choice.

EDWIN NOREÑA - FREAK & UNIQUE XX

Few producers have had as much influence on modern coffee processing as Edwin Noreña.

Based at Campo Hermoso in Valle de Cauca, Colombia, Edwin has spent the last decade pushing the boundaries of what coffee can become through experimentation, precision and an unwavering commitment to quality. For this release we've selected an extraordinary Papayo lot.

Named after its elongated, papaya-shaped cherries, Papayo remains one of coffee's great mysteries. Some believe it may share ancestry with Ethiopian landrace varieties, although its true origins remain unknown.

For this lot, cherries are harvested at over 20° Brix before undergoing a carefully controlled fermentation process: two hours of soaking and sorting, 48 hours of anaerobic fermentation and 72 hours of carbonic maceration. After pulping and washing, the coffee is dried in a greenhouse for around 10 days, producing a complex, expressive cup.
The result? Lime cordial, lemongrass and wild strawberry - one of the most expressive coffees we've tasted all year.

Freak & Unique XX is available now for a limited run.
