We're starting a new series of short videos with our master distiller, James Singlehurst, taking you behind the scenes at Revival Rum.

In this first video, James explains where traditional rum begins and why quality molasses is such an important part of the process.

It's a completely natural part of the ageing process and one of the reasons well-aged rum develops such wonderful character.

Where does rum begin?

Not in the barrel. Not in the still.

It begins with sugar cane.

Most traditional rum is made from molasses – a rich, dark syrup produced during the sugar-making process. It's the starting point for fermentation, where yeast converts the natural sugars into alcohol before distillation.

At Revival Rum, we import quality molasses before beginning our long fermentations and distillation using a traditional copper double retort still.

FB90 Summer Spritz
35ml FB90 • 25ml Grapefruit Juice • 15ml Lime Juice • 10ml Sugar Syrup • Soda Water

Add your FB90, grapefruit juice, lime juice and sugar syrup to your high ball glass with ice and stir briefly. Too with soda water and garnish with grapefruit and if you fancy. a small fennel frond.
