☀️🌊 What an AMAZING day our Twinkles SEN families had on the Norfolk Broads with the Nancy Oldfield Trust! 🌊☀️

There was fun, laughter and adventure from start to finish as our small group of SEN families took to the water to enjoy paddleboarding, pedal boats, canoeing, mini sailing boats and even a trip on a pleasure cruiser! 🚣⛵

It was wonderful to see so many children stepping outside their comfort zones, trying new activities, building confidence and making new friends along the way.

The beautiful sunshine made the day even more special as families explored the stunning Norfolk Broads, surrounded by nature and wildlife. We were lucky enough to spot otters and a variety of rare birds while taking in the breathtaking scenery. 🦦🦅

A huge thank you to the Nancy Oldfield Trust for providing such a fantastic experience and helping to create memories that will last a lifetime.

💙 We have a second Norfolk Broads activity day available to book at the end of August!

What a fantastic way to kick off our Twinkles SEN Summer Programme for children and young people across Norfolk and Suffolk.

We enjoyed a lovely calm and relaxed evening at our private Roarr! Dinosaur Park event. It wasn’t too busy, too loud or too crowded – just the perfect environment for our children to enjoy themselves, explore and have fun at their own pace.

It was especially wonderful to welcome some new families to the Twinkles community. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special.

We’re now looking forward to our next adventure on Friday at the Nancy Oldfield Trust Norfolk Broads Day. Families will have the opportunity to enjoy sailing, canoeing, pedal boating and exploring the beautiful Norfolk Broads in a supportive and SEN-friendly environment.

There are just a couple of spaces remaining. If you would like to join us, please book through our website: www.twinklessen.com

We can’t wait to see more families making memories with us this summer.

Kaan’s journey Moving from a specialist SEN school to college is not an easy transition. Kaan has now completed his first year at college, and it has been far from straightforward.

Despite having an EHCP, many of the right support arrangements were not in place when he started. It is a reminder to parents that an EHCP alone does not guarantee that everything your young person needs will automatically be provided. As so often happens, I found myself relying on the support, knowledge, and experience of other SEN parents to help navigate the situation and push for the right provision.

When concerns were raised, I was repeatedly told that nothing could be changed and that it was too late to alter courses. However, the decisions that had been made were not right for Kaan and did not reflect his abilities, interests, or potential. The impact on his mental health and wellbeing became clear. He withdrew into himself, and seeing such a confident young man lose his spark was incredibly difficult.

Rather than accepting what I was being told, I continued to challenge the situation and insisted that the college review its decisions. It took three months of meetings, conversations, and persistence, but eventually the necessary changes were made.

Since then, Kaan has gone on to achieve some fantastic things through the practical elements of his Construction Multi-Skills course. While the teaching and support around GCSE English and Maths still leave much to be desired, he has discovered a real passion for carpentry and is thriving in that area.

One of the highlights of the year was being nominated by his construction tutor for the William Barry Further Education Scholarship. Although he did not win the scholarship itself, being nominated was a huge achievement and recognition of all his hard work. The William Barry Trust was so impressed with his efforts and progress that they awarded him £100 in recognition of his achievements.

I am incredibly proud of how far he has come. His first year has shown that with the right support, determination, and people who believe in him, he is capable of achieving far more than others initially expected.

If you have a store of your sen child or young persons journey you would like to share, please do so on our page, we would love to hear your stories and your stories could really go on to help others on there journey😊
