***Malcolm Barnecutts - Wadebridge***

Setting/Address -

Estuary Retail Park
Dunveth Business Park
Wadebridge
PL27 7FE

Socials: Malcolm Barnecutt's Bakeries Ltd

Parking - Plenty of parking, including disabled bays.

Latte Price? - £3.95

Coffee Size? - It’s an ok size, I do like my lattes in a glass and if I had a cappuccino in a mug, but that’s personal preference

Dog Friendly? - No 🐾 😔

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 👍🏻

Accessible? - Yes, being a new build, it’s definitely built with accessibility in mind, completely flat in the entrance, a ramp the other side down the road, good size accessible toilets.

Toilets - There is an accessible toilet, good size.

Seating - Plenty of seating, it’s a huge restaurant. The tables aren’t fixed.

Local Produce: Cornish milk is being used, I asked to look at the coffee, it wasn’t local; it was an Italian roasted coffee. It may be bought through a Cornish company, but when there are some fabulous locally roasted coffees, it should probably be using one.

Staff - staff are friendly enough.

Atmosphere - The restaurant is big, and open and clean, it doesn’t have much of an atmosphere to be honest.

Review: My latte was lovely, unfortunately after waiting almost 20 minutes I did have to ask a member of staff where my drink was. It was a busy weekday morning so it may have just got lost. They brought it out swiftly after.

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, Barnies uses sachets of sugar. They do also charge for alternative milks. They have free water inside the door.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️ ☕️ 4/5 - has to lose half a mark for not having Cornish Coffee (to stay in line with my other reviews) and half a mark for the long wait u had for my drink. However, the accessibility is fantastic, the place is very clean, so I think 4 coffee cups is a good score.

*I just wanted to add a little note - the reviews on the coffee shop itself, whether it’s dog friendly for example, are objective - they are facts. However, my opinion on their coffee is definitely subjective, it’s my opinion, and yours may be different, so please still check out our wonderful local businesses for yourself*

I’m going to put my ‘buy me a coffee’ link on each review, there’s no pressure at all, but a few people have messaged that live out of Cornwall asking for my link as they are enjoying my reviews, I will never expect anything on there though! Doing this for fun ❤️☕️

Hello 👋 apologies for the radio silence, I’ve been travelling and galavanting 🤣 I do have some exciting comparisons to other coffee shops overseas just for interest, coming up.

For now I visited The Bay Tree Restaurant at Goonhavern Garden Centre today to do a review…

***The Bay Tree Restaurant***

Setting/Address -

Goonhavern Garden Centre
Goonhavern
TR4 9QQ

Socials: above

Parking - Plenty of parking, including disabled bays.

**as the weather has been so warm, I swapped for an ice latte today**

Latte Price? - £3.30

Coffee Size? - Good Size

Dog Friendly? - No 🐾 dogs are not allowed in the restaurant - there is an outdoor area that they are allowed.

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 👍🏻

Accessible? - Yes, disabled parking right out the front, 2 spaces, and more for the garden centre. There is a lip to enter that could be an issue for certain chairs, see photos.

Toilets - There is an accessible toilet, good size, could do with a clean up but it was getting on in the day.

Seating - Plenty of seating, it’s a huge restaurant, with outside seating too. The tables aren’t fixed.

Local Produce: Cornish roasted coffee, I didn’t see the coffee but the staff member told me. Not local milk unfortunately

Staff - Lovely staff

Atmosphere - The restaurant is big, and open and has a lovely atmosphere.

Review: My Iced Latte was not very strong; I have a feeling it had a single shot in it, I couldn’t really taste the coffee. I could have gone back and asked for another shot but I was thirsty so drank it anyway.

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, Baytree uses sachets of sugar.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️ 3/5 - has to lose half a mark for not having Cornish Milk (to stay in line with my other reviews) and my coffee wasn’t great, I’m sure if I visited again it may be better, and as coffee is the main point of these reviews I feel it’s only fair to be honest.

***Griggs Restaurant***

Setting/Address -

Sticker, between Truro and St Austell.

Pendennis, Lower Sticker, St. Austell, Cornwall, PL26 7JH

It’s also right next to Griggs store if you need anything!

Socials: Grigg's Restaurant

Parking - Plenty of parking, including disabled bays.

Latte Price? - £3.25 - one size great price, one of the lowest I’ve seen.

Coffee Size? - Good Size

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾 there are certain tables for doggos, see photo

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 👍🏻

Accessible? - Very! I was really impressed with the accessibility at Griggs, the walk from the car park is flat, there are stairs up to the restaurant but also a lift (see photos) for disabled customers, I seen it in use and it’s great. Once up in the restaurant everything is well spaced out and very accessible.

Toilets - There are plenty of toilets, and a big accessible toilet too. Very clean and well looked after.

Seating - Plenty of seating, it’s a huge restaurant, with outside seating too. The tables aren’t fixed.

Local ProduceCornish CoffeeCorniRodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream Clotted Cream milk - another double whammy!

Staff - Lovely staff, friendly and helpful.

Atmosphere - The restaurant is big, and open and has a lovely atmosphere.

Review: Great coffee, lovely staff, can’t fault it!

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. They do not charge for alternative milk 🥛 ⭐️

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, Griggs uses sachets of sugar.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️ ☕️ 5/5 Coffees! Full marks! Can’t complain about Griggs, local produce, friendly staff, amazing accessibility, pet friendly, and absolutely lovely coffee! Well done Griggs 👏🏻

***The Beach Hut***
**Watergate Bay**

Setting/Address -

As the address suggests, The Beach Hut is right on the beach at Watergate Bay, beautiful setting.

On the beach, Watergate Bay, Cornwall TR8 4AA

Socials: The Beach Hut

Parking - 2 large car parks at Watergate, there’s the one right on the beach, and the Council one a couple of minutes walk. Accessibility wise, the closest one is probably the best.

Latte Price? - £4 - one size

Coffee Size? - Very Good Size

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾

Accepts Cash and Card? - No, Cashless Business 👎🏻

Accessible? - Sea Lane that you walk down towards the beach is steep so you may need someone to help if you are in a non motorised chair. The Beach Hut itself is accessible, there is a small ramp up to the door, the first door is a touch pad and the second door is a slide door. There is room between tables too.

Toilets - The male and female toilets are up some steps but the accessible toilet is on the same floor, there is a small lip (in photos) but the loo is a good size

Seating - Plenty of seating, a mix of fixed seating and tables and chairs.

Local Produce? The Beach Hut uses locally roasted Origin Coffee Roasters and Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream Milk - another double whammy!

Staff - Lovely staff, friendly and helpful.

Atmosphere - Chilled beach vibes, relaxed. It was very busy when we went in, but still had a lovely atmosphere.

Review: Really good coffee, lovely staff, great place for a coffee after the beach!

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. They do not charge for alternative milk 🥛 ⭐️

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, The Beach Hut uses sachets of sugar.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️ .75- 4.75/5 Coffees! I must admit, it pains me a little bit not to give a 5/5 rating, as the produce is local, they don’t charge for alternative milk, it’s very accessible… however, when I started this page and asked you all what was important when looking at somewhere to go for a coffee, whether they take cash was one of the most common suggestions. The Beach Hut is cashless, personally this wouldn’t bother me, however Mr Cornish Coffee Reviews was home and with me today, and agreed that it should definitely be a factor when reviewing, so I’m taking a small .25 off full marks.

*I just wanted to add a little note - the reviews on the coffee shop itself, whether it’s dog friendly for example, are objective - they are facts. ***The Cornish Barista - Penrose Cafe***
**Shortlanesend/Truro**

Setting/Address -

The Cornish Barista cafe is next to Penrose Water Gardens in Shortlanesend, just outside of Truro.

Penrose water gardens, Shortlanesend, Truro TR4 9ES

Socials: The Cornish Barista

Parking - Lots of parking outside the cafe

Latte Price? - £3.65- one size

Coffee Size? - Good Size

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾 but must be kept on leads

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 💰

Accessible? - Yes, small ramp leading up to the front door, cafe is well laid out, lots of room between tables for any kind of chair. There is a small lip between the cafe and the toilets that might need to be considered (in photos)

Toilets - two individual toilets and a disabled toilet, lots of room in all.

Seating - Plenty of seating, a mix of tables and chairs and sofas.

Local Produce? As the name suggests, the Cornish Barista use local Olfactory coffee roasted in Penryn (a new favourite, my first time and I’ll be buying some for home!) and Trewithen Dairy milk - another double whammy!

Staff - The staff were very friendly, and welcoming. I asked about the coffee and the chap was very informative of where it was from, explained where the shop was and that they had some merchandise in the cafe to buy too.

Atmosphere - Very relaxed; chilled out, really good atmosphere.

Review: Absolutely delicious coffee, lovely staff and a great place to stop in.

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. They do charge for alternative milk 🥛

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, The Cornish Barista have pots of sugar cubes on the table, white and brown, see photos.

📖 I have now also finished ‘The Road Trip’ by Beth O’Leary, it was good, not gripping, but a lovely easy read in the sunshine last week.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️ .75- 4.75/5 Coffees! I know, I’m getting a bit particular now but I’ll explain! I tend to deduct .5 for not using local coffee and or milk, but The Cornish Barista use both of these from local businesses, but they do charge for alternative milk (40p) and when I was asking for what people wanted me to rate; this was a big issue for a lot of people. My personal opinion is that alternative milks should not be extra, but everything else was spot on, so I’ve taken a small .25 off of a full mark score.

This cafe is also right next door to Penrose Water Gardens which is free to explore, with a box for donations. It’s on grass so I can’t guarantee it’s fully accessible, but we had a wander around and will be coming back for a longer visit when the weathers a little nicer.

*I just wanted to add a little note - the reviews on the coffee shop itself, whether it’s dog friendly for example, are objective - they are facts. 4th review in a week! You lucky lot 🤣☕️

***The Tearoom - Perranporth***

Setting/Address -

7-8 Lower Tywarnhayle, Perranporth TR6 0ER

Socials: Tearoom Perranporth

Parking - There are a few 1 hour spaces outside the tea room, but plenty of other parking around Perranporth.

Latte Price? - £3.25 - one size

Coffee Size? - Good Size

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 💰

Accessible? - There is a ramp leading up to the doors from the road, and a dipped curb at each end. There is a small lip across the threshold to the tearoom but I wouldn’t say it would cause any issues to chair users. Plenty of room between tables and access to the loo.

Toilets - One toilet, accessible from cafe, clean and tidy.

Seating - Plenty of seating, not fixed so could be moved for accessibility if needed, but there is room between tables.

Local Produce? The Tearoom uses locally roasted Cornico coffee (a personal favourite!) and Trewithen Dairy milk - another double whammy!

Staff - The best part of my visit was the owners today, Paul and Jan (I hope I have got that correct) were so welcoming and friendly, I was lucky enough to pop in when it was quieter so we had a lovely chat.

Atmosphere - The Tea Room has a lovely feel to it, local artists work on display, clean and tidy, friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Review: Great coffee, probably my favourite since starting the reviews. Lovely owners, friendly, can’t find a fault to be honest!

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. I have to say I’m not sure if Cornico is organic but I will look into it. They do not charge extra for alternative milks. Any other suggestions please keep them coming. ❤️

An addition to this review, I’ve been asked to have a look at what sugar is offered (you guys think of everything!) whether it’s in sachets etc, The Tea Room have pots of sugar cubes on the table, white and brown, see photos.

Also, some people have asked for me to combine book reviews too, at the minute I’m Reading ‘The Road Trip’ by Beth O’Leary, I’ll give a full review when I’ve finished, so far, it’s a good book, but doesn’t make me want to find every spare minute to read (if that makes sense)

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ - 5/5 Coffees! It’s another 5 out of 5 for me. It’s not that I am being overly positive in these reviews so far, it’s just that our local coffee shops have been that damn good! Local produce, accessible, friendly, what more could you ask for?

*I just wanted to add a little note - the reviews on the coffee shop itself, whether it’s dog friendly for example, are objective - they are facts. Latte Price? - £3.00 - one size

Coffee Size? - Good Size

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 💰

Accessible? - The accessibility at the Heart and Soul cafe was the stand out for me on this visit. All the flooring inside and out is flat, no thresholds to cross, there are ramps up to the cafe and also accessible paths. There is also an automatic door/push button to enter.

Toilets - Plenty of toilets, and a disabled loo (in photos) Clean and well looked after.

Seating - lots of seating indoors, seats are not fixed, plenty of room between tables. A few smaller tables outside too and grass area, but on different levels.

Local Produce? The cafe uses locally roasted Origin coffee and Trewithen Dairy Milk, double whammy.

Staff - Welcoming, friendly, happy to answer my questions about the coffee etc.

Atmosphere - Relaxed atmosphere, friendly, really good. Maybe a couple of comfier chairs to relax and read a good book, but then I may not ever leave 🤣

Review: Good Coffee, great atmosphere, very good prices, the cheapest latte so far. The ethos of the cafe is great too.

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. I believe all origin coffee is organic. They do not charge extra for alternative milks. Any other suggestions please keep them coming. ❤️

Final Rating:

***New Review coming up later this afternoon, in the Newquay area this time***

Thank you for all your feedback and what else to look for when doing these reviews, it’s been very helpful! I’ve had some really touching messages about how great it will be to know about the accessibility of cafes specifically, which is great.

A few people have messaged me about the ‘Buy me a Coffee’ account. I have set one up, I will share the link below. I’ve had a few messages from people saying they are really enjoying the reviews and I should do a page.

It’s a program that lets people donate to ‘buy me a coffee’ - I’ve looked into it and it’s secure and recommended.

I do feel a bit unsure about sharing the link, please by no means think I’m wanting people to donate for me to continue. I will be doing reviews either way; but if anyone wants to, here’s the link.

My name is Jess (the Cornish maid) and I enjoy a coffee and a good book in my spare time. I decided that having a page dedicated to review coffee shops around Cornwall would be a great idea for those

01/04/25 Edited to update - having spoken with The Cove, they have confirmed that they do not allow dogs inside the cafe… I did see a dog in there, however, they allow dogs while someone is ordering a drink, but not to sit in. Hope this clarifies, and thank you to the person who questioned this in the comments, it’s really important I get these things correct ☕️❤️

***The Cove- Perranporth***

(I will be going further afield but as this is my local area the first few will be around here)

Setting/Address - 7 St Pirans Rd, Perranporth (on the main high street)

Latte Price? - £3.95 for a large latte

Coffee Size? - Great size

Dog Friendly? - Not inside

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 💰

Accessible? - Cafe is on the high street, there is a ‘lip’ as you enter, which if you are on your own in a chair of any kind, may be a slight issue, however the staff were very attentive and I’m sure would help

Toilets - 1 toilet, very clean and plenty big enough for a wheelchair, a very very small lip to enter, I don’t think it would cause any issues for accessibility but as I am not a chair user I wouldn’t want to say for certain. (Maybe someone local who is a chair user could let me know?)

Seating - Lots of tables inside, some are fixed but others aren’t so plenty of options. Also tables on the street outside.

Local Produce? The Cove do not use local coffee, they use Lavazza Gold, however, they do support local with their milk, using Roddas 👍🏻

Staff - Very welcoming, friendly, cannot do enough to help, the staff really stood out for me. Also clearing tables quickly and keeping the place looking great.

Atmosphere - Friendly atmosphere, I could have sat here for hours, smiley, happy staff.

Review: Good Coffee, well made, good temperature for a latte. £3.70 for a medium, I went for a large at £3.95, on the higher end for a coffee but it was big (see photos)

A few extra things comments have asked me to look for - they offer free tap water. I don’t believe the coffee is organic. They do not charge extra for alternative milks. Any other suggestions please keep them coming. ❤️

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️ 1/2 - 4.5 coffees out of 5, one coffee cup down for not using locally roasted beans, but added a 1/2 for using local milk.

*I just wanted to add a little note as this page has gained a lot more followers overnight - the reviews on the coffee shop itself, whether it’s dog friendly for example, are objective - they are facts. However, my opinion on their coffee is definitely subjective, it’s my opinion, and yours may be different, so please still check out our wonderful local businesses for yourself*

☕️ Thank you ☕️

I have had a fantastic response to this idea so far, thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

A few things I’ll be adding to my reviews include whether the coffee is organic, whether the loos are accessible, and many more ideas too.

New review coming later today, which will include all the new ideas!

First Review!

***Alcatraz - Perranporth***

Setting/Address - right on the beautiful Perranporth Beach 🏖️

Latte Price? - £3.80

Coffee Size? - Great size, plenty big enough

Dog Friendly? - Yes 🐾

Accepts Cash and Card? - Yes 💰

Accessible? - Accessed by steps up and down, no ramp entrance 👎🏻 but sister cafe Summerhouse is accessible.

Toilets - 2 toilets, clean and well equipped

Seating - Approx 8 tables inside, more outside on small terrace and plenty on the top terrace

Local produce? No, Alcatraz use SUNDAY coffee, which isn’t locally roasted. However, they do promote sustainability.

Staff - Very friendly, helpful and quick, very good.

Atmosphere - great atmosphere, beach vibes, lots of dogs covering the place in sand, very relaxed.

Review: Lovely coffee, nice temperature, just right for a latte, a little on the pricey side at £3.80 but I imagine that’s partly due to location, it’s stunning.

Final Rating:

☕️☕️☕️☕️ 4 coffees out of 5, just one down for not using local suppliers for coffee. (I believe their food is but that’s for another day 🤣)

Will definitely return.
