Sorry - I don't think I put that very well so a quick addition simply to say once participants on my course have mastered the correct fi*****ng across the keyboard and keeping up a little more practice to fully embed the skill, all turn into bona fide touch typists!

For any parents reading this - please be aware that just doing a touch typing course is not a guarantee you or your son or daughter will turn into a touch typist. I often see an outcome where it's simply boosted 'familiarity with the keyboard'. So yes, typing might be quicker, but the need to 'look down' is ever present. With a very Dyslexic 18yr old having just completed the course and as with all who learn with me, now a bona fide touch typist, thought I'd mention a few thoughts. Firstly to echo his wish he'd learned this skill years ago, rather than having to depend on a scribe for school exams! The many lifelong benefits this skill provides are now literally at his finger tips. Yes it takes some effort and energy but is so worth it. Having an experienced tutor guide and encourage, makes the tricky business so much easier. 1:1 tutoring is fun and gets them over the line with it, normally in just 10 - 12hrs.

Fully Tutored Touch Typing Courses Online

We'll start with a phone call. Here we can chat about our unique course methods, exactly what is needed timewise and how I turn learners into bona fide touch typists!

From then, we will hatch a plan – getting our diaries together and arranging session times and dates.

Once these details are agreed, I’ll send you a booking form and arrange a time to connect our computers prior to course start. Once a deposit is received, I’ll forward a ‘Learner’s Pack’ that is useful in helping break any ‘look down’ habits.
PRICING:
Pricing varies depending on the time needed. Most bookers prefer a 12hr course but if you’ve experience of touch typing, perhaps a 10hr course would be sufficient.
If two family members or friends learn together, there is a discount.

A group of 10 learners asked me to run a Face to Face course last week near Newark. Such a super bunch of people and a beautiful home venue. The participant who was fastest through the programme, turning into a bona fide touch typist in front of my eyes, also happened to be a 10yr old, the youngest there.
This was no coincidence. This skill is easiest learned by those fresh to keyboards. It's way harder breaking bad 'hunt & peck' methods of typing and having to retrain the brain away from memorising where letters are on a keyboard, to the finger movements that hit them! Latter is what builds the muscle memory that makes this a lifelong skill, once learned properly.

Sharing a fellow Mum's observation! After her son had returned to school after Christmas, his Mum hosted a coffee morning, mentioning that her son had done one of my courses. One of the other mothers then remarked "Why did you bother to pay for a course? - you could've just downloaded software for free"?!
She'd replied "Because I wanted it done. And I wanted it done properly!"
That's my mantra. Of course, there are dozens of offers online - it's just that I've yet to meet a youngster who's learned to touch type fast and accurately under their own steam. Experienced tutor targeted help and encouragement is what sees successful outcomes and needless to say, once learned properly, the benefits are huge and lifelong!

I get such fantastic referrals and thought I'd share this one from a young pupil who found learning this skill to be very beneficial.

Three years ago, when I was 9 years old, I was typing at a speed of 4 words per minute. I was looking down at the keys which was not helping me get any better. I hadn’t done a typing course or anything.
Then my Mum booked me onto one of Diane’s courses. I liked Diane a lot straightaway as she’s a very nice person and encourages all the children a lot. At first I didn’t think I was making much progress as it takes time to learn, but Diane told me that I needed to stick with it and she would guide me and the other children through it. I always really enjoyed learning with her.

I started practicing more and more. I liked seeing my typing speed increase and it suddenly started to help me finish my homework a lot quicker. This meant I could have more time playing football outside with my friends and doing other things I wanted to have time to do.

Now I am 11 years old. I type at 75-80 words per minute. I have been given awards at school for my touch typing which has made me really proud and helped my confidence.

Diane’s course has meant that I can now write emails much more quickly, and do presentations and work for school much more easily. It makes homework much less stressful.

The typing programme Diane uses is very enjoyable with fun typing games! It motivated me because I think it’s very well designed for children. As I get older I know I am going to have to do more work on computers, and I think that to be a good touch-typer is a very big help to my learning at school.

Running several Face to Face courses in Easter hols - at Farleigh School near Andover and Oundle School, as well as home courses and online. Do get in touch and transform the ease of using your computer, boosting your productivity and creativity, and if in education, improving your grades.
The benefits are so wide ranging, it's a no brainer gaining this life skill and doing one of my courses just makes it enjoyable and fun.

Heading into Easter hols and several Face to Face courses on horizon. While it's commendable that many schools now offer Touch Typing, and whilst all learning is good learning, evidence from children who do find their way onto my courses clearly shows that relying on “self-teaching” using downloaded software, rarely works. In fact it often has the opposite effect, embedding incorrect finger movements in the brain. This is especially true for those with Learning Difficulties. If, as a parent or teacher, you can’t touch type yourself, I understand it can be tricky recognising the difference between ‘boosting keyboard familiarity’ (essentially turning them into lifelong ‘hunt & peckers’) and Touch Typing, which uses unconscious muscle memory with all the many benefits it brings but which takes time and correct practice.

Knowing how busy teachers are, it’s no wonder no-one has the time to sit and supervise correct repetition of finger-to-key movements in order for them to become automatic, free’ing the brain from all that ‘hunt & peck’ exhaustion!

The difference doing an intensive course with supervision by an experienced, hands-on, encouraging Tutor, is huge and seen in the outcomes. It's simply one of the best investments anyone can make in their child's future. If you don't believe me, check out the referrals on my website!

13 Aug: Just received feedback from a young 13yr old who did the online course recently:
“Hey Diane I got my GCSEs back yesterday and they went amazingly and I just wanted to say Thankyou so much for teaching me how to touch type, i couldn’t of got anywhere close to what I did without you and I’m still using it now and I will do even sometimes map it out with my fingers before I go to bed 😂
Thankyou
Ben”

Sums up what learning to touch type can do!

A first for me - lovely lady Ann learning to touch type on The Algarve as broadband knows no borders! Adults always find it little touch to start learning a new discipline - especially if they have never made individual finger-brain connections before. But, like anything in life, stick at it, keep practicing and you get there. Am so enjoying the course and fun having adult company too.

Received best ever Christmas card this morning because of what is said and thought I'd share it. To quote:
"Thank you Diane so much for the magic you have worked with our son over the summer. Being able to touch type has transformed his education! We gave just had parent's evening and many teachers commented on his typng!

That's the best news ever for me, for an 11yr old who really battled to gain this skill, and is now away with it.
