๐Ÿ“Œ Post 3/3 The Longer-Term Future of the Pub:

We would like to make it absolutely clear that Ryanโ€™s decision to give the pub back has absolutely nothing to do with all this external noise - excuse the pun!

We would never give them the satisfaction. Rather, itโ€™s solely for the personal reasons outlined in a previous post.

The brewery has asked Ryan to remain in place until January 2027, and he has agreed to do so.

At that point, the pub will close for a short period before reopening with Lowri at the helm.

We have every confidence that the pub will continue to improve, go from strength to strength, and remain at the heart of our village & our community.

Of course, none of that is possible without your continued support.

So, thank you, as always, for standing by us. Your encouragement, kindness and loyalty genuinely means everything to us.

๐Ÿ“Œ Post 2/3 Live Music / Ongoing Complaints:

The same neighbours behind the initial double yellow lines proposal have continued to make complaints to RCT regarding our live music & general โ€˜noiseโ€™ from our beer garden.

Unfortunately, the days of pubs simply opening the doors and expecting people to come in are long gone. That model is no longer viable. Public houses are closing at a rate of 1 per week in Wales. You have to be putting stuff on to draw people in. Local live music has proved to be a game changer for us in terms of bringing people through the door.

The most recent complaints relate to:

Ponty Presley performing in the beer garden between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.
The fiddle band performing INSIDE the pub between 3:00pm and 5:00pm on the May Bank Holiday Sunday.

Itโ€™s difficult to ignore the fact that these complaints have increased significantly since the double yellow lines proposal was rejected.

We fully appreciate that excessive noise would be unacceptable. However, we firmly believe that the occasional afternoon solo singer or acoustic duo is a perfectly reasonable part of village pub life.

We have made every attempt to accommodate as best as we can - changing the type of artists, times, duration and how often we have the singers. But the goal posts keep moving and nothing is ever good enough. If a 2 piece fiddle band playing inside 3-5pm on a bank holiday Sunday is unacceptable then what is acceptable?!

Sadly, matters have now escalated and gotten so vindictive that they have been calling the police simply because customers remained in the beer garden after 10:00pm during the recent spell of exceptional weather.

Following legal advice from our solicitor, we have reluctantly taken the short term decision to cancel upcoming live music while we continue to work positively with RCT. We hope that live music will return soon.

We sincerely hope that, just as the Traffic Department did, both the Licensing and Environmental Health Departments will take the proportionate and common-sense approach to this matter.

We want to be absolutely clear, we are prepared to take this as far as necessary to protect local live music and the long-term viability of our pub, both of which we firmly & unapologetically believe are irreplaceable assets to our community.

A Few Updates Regarding the Double Yellow Lines, Live Music, & the longer term future of the Pub:

๐Ÿ“ŒPost 1/3 - Double Yellow Lines :

Firstly, we would like to thank all of you who objected to the proposed double yellow lines on St. Illtydโ€™s Road. Thanks to your incredible support, it became the single most objected-to traffic scheme in RCT history.

We are delighted to confirm that the original proposal has been rejected. RCT Council have revised the scheme whereby no waiting restrictions will apply at junctions and corners only.

We would like to thank everyone within the RCT Traffic Department for listening, and for reaching a sensible compromise that addresses genuine safety issues while helping to protect the future of both our village church and our pub.

On a separate note, we have received several reports regarding orange traffic cones being placed out in the road outside the front of the pub. We would like to make it absolutely clear that these cones have nothing whatsoever to do with us.
We have it confirmed they are unauthorised, illegal & classed as fly-tipping. Weโ€™ve been left no choice and have reported them to RCT today.

We would like to sincerely extend our thanks to:
All of you who signed our petition
All of our friends at St. Illtyds Church
