Argh! Too excited!

The cats out the bag so we can really shout about this now. On Monday 22nd June we will be welcoming the year 6 pupils from Portreath School to take over the Deli.

So far we’ve had a menu planning session and they have come up with some really tasty treats for you. They’ve also designed their posters and we’ll be doing a round up session afterwards to discuss their successes, areas to think on and how much money they’ve raised.

Pupils will be here taking orders, preparing meals and tidying up afterwards. We will also have our usual range of coffees and cold drinks available to order. They have also decided that under 5s get a free glass of squash - what a bonus!

This is such an exciting opportunity for them to experience work in a real world setting and incredibly fortunate to be supported by Cornwall Hospitality Collective who will be funding the cost of ingredients - meaning we can raise loads and loads of money for their chosen charities, Cancer Research UK and Portreath School PTA.

We won’t be taking bookings so we suggest getting here promptly or be happy to hang on 10 minutes for a table to become free. Beautiful and healthy brunch bowls will be served 9am - 11am, and super stacked sandwiches for lunch 12pm - 2pm.

Martyn and I went on a bit of a detour this week to cook for the lovely Jackie and family in their stunning holiday home booked through Cornish Gems.

The family had a whole range of dietary requirements so they put us through our paces in the menu planning stage but it all came together perfectly. Together we chose tapas style starters, beef shin ragu for the main course and another sharing style dessert table to round off the evening whilst they cracked open a very special dessert wine saved for the occasion. Of course, we didn’t get as many pictures as we should have!

It was so nice to get out of the deli for a change and cook in a completely different setting. Not to mention that Jackie and her family were wonderful and welcoming. The whole thing took me right back to my chalet host days.

✨Another coffee date for your diary✨

I’ll be hosting another meet up at Jay Bird Deli in Portreath on Wednesday 8th July at 10am (in addition to our June date at the Cornish Barista), and I’d love if you could join us!

Pregnant mamas, babes in arms, and bigger little ones all welcome 🤍 There is no charge for this event; only for the beautiful food and beverages that are available to purchase from the cafe.

Let me know if you’d like to come along and I’ll pop you on my list so that the cafe has an idea of numbers.

We’ve had a bit of a spruce up in the Deli - mostly so that we could chill the wine because, priorities.

But also a shiny new menu board and room for more Cornish treats on our shelves - cheese and charcuterie on their way. Everything you need for a little picky tea.
