Sunday lunch should feel like something.

Not just food on a plate, but the full thing. The smell of gravy, the crack of a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes with a bit of fight in them, meat carved properly, veg done right, and a plate you actually want to sit with for a while.

Ours is served down on the Mill Dam, in an old building by the water, with a pint nearby if you’re doing Sunday properly.

Our meatballs, tucked into a blistered, wood-fired pizza bowl, bubbling away in rich tomato sauce with melted cheese, basil and parmesan. It’s messy in the right places. Loud in the right way. The sort of thing you lean over, sleeves rolled up, and stop talking for a minute.

Not fancy. Not delicate. Just proper food, done with fire, dough, sauce and a bit of soul.
