🎮 Fortnite + Maths = The perfect combination!➕🧮

One of my learners is a huge Fortnite fan, so today's maths lesson was built entirely around something they love!

We played a Fortnite-inspired maths board game, where every move around the board came with a maths challenge. Along the way, we collected loot chests, building materials, shields and bonus rewards, making each question feel like part of the game rather than "just maths."

To develop number sense even further, we collected coins throughout the game and used concrete resources to represent each player's total. We then compared the amounts by adding and subtracting to work out who had more coins and by how many. Using practical resources alongside the game helped to make the maths visual, meaningful and fun.

This is a great example of how I adapt my sessions to each child's interests. By bringing something they're passionate about into the lesson, engagement increases, confidence grows and learning becomes something they genuinely look forward to.

Learning through play, following children's interests and making maths memorable is what tutoring is all about. 💙🎮✨

✨ **Story Building in Action!** ✨

One of my online learners and I are currently creating our very own story, and it's been amazing to see their ideas come to life! 📖💭

We started by creating a mind map to describe our characters, exploring their personalities, appearance, and unique qualities. Using these ideas, we then brought our characters to life.

Next, we did the same for our setting, thinking carefully about where our story takes place and adding lots of descriptive detail. Once we had our ideas, we created a picture to help us visualise our setting.

In our next session, we'll begin writing our story, using all the fantastic ideas we've already planned and discussed.

Story writing isn't just about putting words on paper—it's about developing imagination, creativity, vocabulary, planning skills, and confidence.

I can't wait to see where this story takes us! 🌟✍️

🦊 Did you know our phonics lessons don't start with a pencil? ✏️
At The Clever Fox Club, we like to begin our phonics sessions with a game of Dough Disco! 🎶🟡
Dough Disco is a fun, hands-on activity that helps strengthen the fine motor muscles in children's hands and fingers. Developing these muscles is an important step in supporting pencil grip, letter formation, and overall writing skills.
Not only does it prepare little hands for writing, but it's also a fantastic way to get children engaged, focused, and excited for the lesson ahead. Best of all... they absolutely love it! 🥰
Learning should be fun, and sometimes the best progress starts with a little play. 🦊💛

Today’s double tutoring session was full of fun, teamwork, and plenty of maths! 🎲✨

We started with a multiplication warm-up using a deck of cards. Each learner drew two cards to create their multiplication questions, making fact practice engaging and unpredictable. To support my younger learner, we used a multiplication Pop It as a scaffold, helping her build confidence while developing her recall skills.

Using games and hands-on resources keeps learning enjoyable while meeting each child at their individual level. It's all about making learning accessible, building confidence, and celebrating progress every step of the way. 💙

Learning is most effective when it’s built around a child’s interests! 🌟

Today we explored letter sounds through hands-on, engaging activities tailored to this learner’s love of being creative. We practised recognising and matching sounds through a cutting and sticking activity, then reinforced our learning by painting the letters and saying their sounds as we worked.

By combining movement, creativity, and play, we make phonics meaningful, memorable, and fun. When children are interested and engaged, their confidence grows and learning happens naturally. 💙

Maths becomes much more engaging when it has a purpose.

In today's lesson, we used budgeting and spending scenarios to practise formal written methods. Through careful use of column addition and subtraction, my pupil was able to calculate costs, monitor spending and make informed decisions based on a set budget.

A fantastic effort and some excellent mathematical thinking throughout.

💛 Little hands, big achievements. 💛

One of my youngest learners working hard on their phonics today. By using play dough, building blocks, flashcards and mark-making activities, we transformed learning letter sounds and early writing into a fun, interactive experience.

Children learn best when they can see, touch, build and explore. Every activity is carefully chosen to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

Watching children realise, "I can do this!" never gets old. 🌟

✨ Getting a phonics lesson ready for one of my littlest learners today! ✨

At The Clever Fox Club, learning is always hands-on, interactive, and fun 🦊💛

Using magnetic letters, phonics cards, and building blocks, we’ll be exploring letter sounds, blending, and early word building in a playful way that helps learning really stick!

Once we feel confident with our sounds, we’ll use our blocks to build and create words together, turning reading and writing into an exciting adventure 🌈📚

Every session is carefully planned to build confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning from the very beginning ✨
