Adult male birds cut feathers from the middle of their tails at maturity, leaving the spine bare. This gives the tail a racket shape, which they move from side to side to communicate visually.
The scream is a nasal squawk, "cwawcaca" or "cwaanhoho", sometimes it repeats and can be heard from afar
