We are deeply saddened to share some terrible news. After roasting hours on Monday evening, a fire damaged the location, Regalia Roasting Collective, that we and many others depend on to deliver fresh, delicious coffee for our customers. We are extremely lucky that no one was in the roastery at the time of the fire and there are no injuries. The fire is due to an unknown cause at this time.
I want to take a moment of your time to tell you just what the Regalia Roasting Collective, and the people who operate it mean to us at Waypost.
Almost 4 years ago now, I walked into Regalia wanting to taste and buy some coffee. The owner/roaster there, Paolo, saw my enthusiasm for coffee and offered to teach me to roast, after only talking to him for a few minutes. It was at Regalia that I experienced my first cupping (coffee tasting), our first roast as Waypost Coffee, threw our kickoff party, and countless other experiences.
What was built at Regalia isn't just a place to roast coffee. It's a community. I've met some of my closest friends through some of the educational events Regalia has had. 30+ roasters create their brand's coffees there. It's a place any of the members feel comfortable sharing knowledge and resources to make each other better. It's truly a community which believes a rising tide lifts all boats.
Paolo, who owns and operates Regalia Roasting Collective, is the type of person who will give you the shirt off his back. I can't tell you how many times he's taken my call during off hours when I've had random questions about roasting or just how to operate a coffee business. Paolo, and his wonderful, growing family of Chisato and Luca, are Waypost's waypost.
