ខកូឡា is a Khmer dish that everything is simmered with tomatoes. The combination of tomatoes and shallots gives a friendly appetising smell. The fatty cut pork is perfectly cooked, it's juicy and tender, yet not greasy at all thank to the acidity of the tomatoes. The balance of the flavours makes this dish so satisfying.

PS: អាម៉ុកខ្យង is good too, but I should order a light dish like mangoes salad or soup to pair with ខកូឡា.

Do you know it is safe to consume MSG as known as Monosodium Glutamate or ប៊ីចេង? It has been a food myth for many decades.

Basically, MSG or Monosodium Glutamate can be found in any meat, fruit, vegetable, daily products, tomato, cheese, and even in your body. It was first introduced in 1908 by a Japanese biochemist, Kikunae Ikeda. He extracted the savory taste or the fifth flavour called Umami from Kombu (A type of edible Seaweed) to enhance the flavour in cooking.

However, in 1968, a doctor, Robert Ho Man Kwok, said he experienced unpleasant feelings such as sleepiness, numbness in the neck and headache after having a meal at a Chinese Restaurant that used MSG. People later called this symptoms "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome". Moreover, in Cambodia, people believe that MSG consumption leads to bone weakening.

Nevertheless, there is no scientific evidence that proves a proper amount of MSG consumption can cause any health problems.

It's an exotic and a rare experience tasting Hawaiian fusion cuisine here in Phnom Penh. This Ono Aloha mixed platter comprises of aloha, Japanese, and European cooking.

1. The Kalua pig is a famous aloha traditional dish, it's a steamed pulled pork with minced cabbage and onion, seasoning in its unique Hawaiian flavour. The pork is steamed over night similar to its original cooking method ( Kalua is meant to cook in an underground oven ).
2. The shrimps are coated in flour and sautéed with minced garlic, onion, and cabbage.
3. Chili con carne, though its name has chili in it, this dish is not spicy at all. Simply put, this dish is translated as chili with meat. The main ingredients are meat, chilly peppers, tomato, and beans. It's served with the provided baguette.
4. Karaage, a Japanese style deep fried boneless chicken. It is crispy on the outside and richly juicy on the inside.

Ps: The creamy mentai pasta there is really good! Stay tuned for its post!
Ps: Ono means delicious! In Hawaiian.

As if finding treasure in a labyrinth, the Dim Sum is located deep in the center of criss-cross Orussey market. For those who know Yum Cha (饮茶), this dimsum is served differently from the traditional style. First, you pick and pack the Dim Sum by yourself then proceed to payment. The Dim Sum has smooth and translucent skin with different fillings: shrimp, pork, chieves, thousand year egg, mushroom, etc. ( Har gow 虾饺, Siu Mai 烧卖, Chive Dumpling 韭菜饺, and 2 other unique dumplings).

Tip: Since it's made with limited quantity, it's best to get there early.
