Cafe Belcampo

Cultuurcafe Belcampo is het leescafé van de OBA in De Hallen. Wees welkom voor een kop koffie, een rustige werksfeer en ons culturele programma.

Belcampo is het leescafé van de Bibliotheek De Hallen in Tramremise De Hallen. Het café is genoemd naar de beroemde Nederlandse schrijver die voor een tijd in Amsterdam Oud West woonde. Belcampo is ruim, licht en is open voor zowel bibliotheekbezoekers als andere bezoekers. De kranten en collectie tijdschriften van de bibliotheek hebben een plek gekregen in café Belcampo en zijn daarmee ook buiten

openingstijden van de bibliotheek toegankelijk voor iedereen. Het menu is een mix van basic en meer luxe broodjes, plus salades, soepen, zoet, en kwaliteitkoffie van Lot Sixty-one Coffee Roasters. Belcampo is, net zoals de bibliotheek, toegankelijk en betaalbaar voor een zeer breed publiek. Belcampo organiseert, vaak in samenwerking met de bibliotheek, literaire en culturele activiteiten, o.a. lezingen en boekpresentaties. Deze vinden overdag en ’s avonds plaats in de prachtige entresol. Belcampo staat open voor initiatieven van anderen, liefst met een literaire, culturele of maatschappelijke inhoud, en zeker wanneer het gerelateerd is aan de collectie of activiteiten van de bibliotheek.

With This Is Not a Recital, she explores where classical music can live today, beyond traditional concert halls, in new spaces and for new audiences.

Every fourth Friday of the month, Café Belcampo fills with live jazz. Led by drummer , this monthly jam session is all about connection, spontaneity, and shared music. Grab a drink, settle in, and let the evening unfold.

We’re happy to welcome back the Tobias van der Pijl Trio. The Amsterdam-based trio plays original compositions by guitarist and bandleader Tobias van der Pijl, with Dennis Levin on double bass and Erik Köhl on drums. Their sound blends jazz, Latin, and classical influences, inspired by artists such as Tom Ollendorff, Djavan, and Kurt Rosenwinkel familiar yet fresh.

Jazz musicians are warmly invited to join in and play along. Whether you come with an instrument or just to listen, everyone is welcome!

A free classical concert by students from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. This edition features Marta Fonseca on gituar.

Where does classical music live?

With the series of concerts This Is Not a Recital, classical guitarist Marta Fonseca proposes a research-based practice on the modes, contexts, and audiences that classical music can accommodate. The project is a direct reference to Magritte’s Ceci n’est pas une pipe and reflects on how classical repertoire can reach new audiences and inhabit new spaces. With a repertoire ranging from classical music to classic arrangements of Portuguese music such as Foi Deus by Amália Rodrigues and Canção de Embalar by Zeca Afonso, it aims to rethink what constitutes a classical recital and to reinvent the way classical music is presented.

“In a classical recital the musician cannot wear sneakers, nor informal or colourful clothes; when a mistake happens, they cannot make faces nor repeat the passage; they cannot look at the audience while playing; they cannot enter the stage too fast or too slowly; they cannot improvise (unless it is written in the score); they cannot do crowd surfing. It is all of this that interests me to rethink.”

Marta Fonseca stands out in the Portuguese classical music scene as the first guitar student in the history of the National Conservatory of Lisbon to complete her studies with a perfect 20. She gave a recital at the National Pantheon at age 19 and has achieved notable rankings in European competitions such as the International Guitar Competition of Madrid in 2022 (Public Prize Award) and the Albania International Guitar Competition in the same year (Second Prize Award). Last February, she accompanied the soprano singer Leonor Vasconcelos at the Juilliard School, in New York. She is currently doing her Master’s degree in Classical Guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and works as an accompanist for the Portuguese artist A Sul in live shows, for whom she has composed arrangements for her upcoming album.
