🥧 The Story Behind Our Tītī Pies 🥧
At Kai Reka, we believe good kai comes with a story worth sharing.
The tītī (muttonbirds) used in our Tītī Pies are sourced from the Bragg whānau of Te Poho o Tairea (Big Island). They are proudly harvested by father and daughter, continuing a tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Tītī harvesting is more than gathering food. It's about preserving knowledge, spending time together on the islands, caring for the environment, and keeping whānau traditions alive. The skills, values, and stories shared during the season are just as important as the harvest itself.
By working together, father and daughter are helping ensure these traditions continue for future generations, carrying on the connection between whānau, whenua, moana, and kai.
At Kai Reka, we're honoured to use their harvested tītī in our pies, sharing a genuine taste of Murihiku and celebrating the people behind the kai.
Every Tītī Pie is a reminder that food isn't just about flavour—it's about whakapapa, tradition, hard work, and the whānau who make it possible.
