PT3: After spending time at her two cafés, Blended and Dirty Billies, we had a chance to sit down with the mind behind both: Toni. After 30+ years in the industry, she’s learnt a thing or two about hospitality, and had some pretty nice things to say about our coffee too.

For Toni, the name Blended says it all — a nod to her family of six kids and a café built on connection. In her words, it’s a match made in heaven: great food, great coffee, a great location — and a whole lot of heart.

PT2: If Blended is all about the sit-down experience, Dirty Billies is the grab-and-go side of Toni’s world. 

Born from a Utah road trip and a TikTok deep dive, Dirty Billies is one of a kind in Papamoa. 

Think back street garage vibes, bold flavours and zero pretence — this is your spot for grab-and-go goodness with a twist. From vanilla cherry pie sodas to dirty matchas and signature coffee mixes, Toni’s taken the “dirty soda” craze and made it her own.

Her passion for coffee and growth is truly inspiring. Toni’s journey is all about staying ahead of the trends, continuously learning, and, of course, serving up some incredible coffee.

Here’s what Toni has to say:

What’s your go-to coffee?
First thing in the morning, it’s an Americano with a side of pouring cream—that’s what gets me to work every day. Mid-morning, I switch it up with a tulip flat white and almond milk. Honestly, I dream about our coffee.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for anyone starting a business?
Do your research and gain experience in the field. Having a solid knowledge base is key, especially in the hospitality industry. It makes all the difference!

What’s your top tip for growing a business?
Go with the trends! Don’t be afraid to embrace what’s popular—it’s likely to sell. Always think outside the box and be inspired by the businesses you admire. Keep growing, and your business will grow right alongside you!
