It is named after Ezo Gelin, a young woman from a village near Gaziantep, renowned for her beauty and remembered for her life of longing and resilience. According to local legend, Ezo created this nourishing soup using simple ingredients such as red lentils, bulgur, and rice. Over time, the soup became associated with her name and story, symbolizing warmth, comfort, and the rich culinary heritage of Anatolia. Today, Ezogelin Soup remains a cherished part of Turkish cuisine, enjoyed for both its hearty flavor and the touching story behind it.

Today I went to the BNZ Base branch. I noticed that the meeting rooms were named Miro Mā, Miro Whero, and Miro Pango. It caught my attention and made me curious.
At first, I did a quick translation search and found that Miro Mā means "white thread." I was confused and thought, "What does that have to do with a bank?" I expected it to mean something like a savings account, deposit account, or another banking term.
After I left the bank, I did some more research and discovered that it comes from a well-known Māori saying:
“Kotahi te kōhao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā, te miro pango, te miro whero...”
It means:
“Through the eye of a single needle pass the white thread, the black thread, and the red thread together.”
The saying represents unity and different people coming together as one.
