In the context of Happycity, Everythink challenges each year the students from Fine-Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP) to explore new ways of shaping the city of Porto through eight different themes. One of those themes is **Outdoor Gym**.
This trend focuses on rethinking the city as an active space, where design, engineering, and architecture come together to promote healthier lifestyles and well-being. It’s more than just exercise for thought. It’s about creating inviting, beautiful environments that encourage people to move, connect, and enjoy the city.
From playful and creative interventions to dedicated gym spaces for both day and night use, the goal is to transform everyday urban areas into places that inspire self-care and happiness. Reimagining Porto as a city that actively promotes health and well-being, encouraging new habits and lifestyles through its public spaces.
We came up with some challenges on how to approach it:
**Smart Mobility & Cycling Culture |** Developing an app and communication strategy for cycling routes, similar to the solution created for Porto's Metro, to make cycling a more attractive and accessible option.
**Decentralized Sports Infrastructure |** Creating sports centers across different areas of the city to improve access, while revitalizing existing spaces like Parque Oriental and CDUP.
**Active Nightlife in Public Space |** Closing selected streets at night to create safe running circuits, allowing people to experience the city in new and dynamic ways.
**Engaging the Younger Generation |** Designing projects such as skate parks, outdoor gyms, and static bike zones, combined with events that attract and involve younger audiences.
Curious to see how these ideas can reshape the future of Porto?
