It’s impossible to think of summer and not think of hanging out with our best friends. Running through sprinklers in the hazy heat, drinking lemonade, eating drippy ice cream. The shelter is FULL which means so many different types of animals to choose from. But we also desperately need help to spread the word and make sure this event is a success to free up some much needed space. 🐈‍⬛🐕🐓🐇

Tell your friends, neighbors and loved ones that adoption fees are on us and hopefully they will feel inspired to come add to their families with one or two of the wonderful animals waiting for their second chance at the Prince William County Animal Services Center.

In light of the national outbreak of cyclosporiasis (with the primary suspect being contaminated lettuce), Dave's Dogs assures you that there is no lettuce anywhere on our menu. Eat healthy. Eat more hot dogs. (And, make it a combo with your choice of french fries, tater tots, or onion rings and a drink.)

We didn't see Blair at the shelter when we visited recently, and hoped she had found a new home, but turns out she is just being given a break from the shelter by a wonderful foster. (Thank you, Eileen!)

She is thriving in a home environment. Blair is quite exotic looking, lets you know when she wants something (she's a talker), and is sweet and affectionate. If you have room in your heart and home for Blair, please contact the Prince William County Animal Services Bureau to make an appointment to meet her! (Because she's in foster, her foster mom will need to bring her to the shelter for the meet and greet.)

The animal shelter's pet pantry (which provides food to people struggling to feed their animals--anything that keeps pets in their homes instead of the shelter is a GREAT initiative) is struggling to keep up with demand, especially for cat food. We're making a donation of several bags of dry cat food on behalf of our awesome customers, but if you can help, please see their Amazon wish list.

You can drop off donations or have them shipped directly to the PWC Animal Services Center, 14807 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112.

Our Pet Food Pantry has become so important to the community that, in the first 6 months of this year, we have already distributed 1500lbs more food than we did for the entire year of 2025! Our dog food donations have been keeping pace with demand, but unfortunately, we can’t say the same for CAT FOOD (kibble) because OUR SHELVES ARE BARE! A few years ago, someone nominated Karen for "best waiter/waitress" in the best of Prince William County annual survey. It was hilarious in part because we knew no one could ever beat the incomparable Peggy at Montclair Family Restaurant who deservedly had that category locked up year after year.

Peggy was an institution around here, having worked at MFR for decades. Every time Dave would go there, she would ask about Dave's Dogs. Every time Karen would go there, she would ask if Karen still had her Smart car (which Helen thought was just the funniest little car around).

It wasn't just us. Everyone was special to Peggy. She loved everyone who came there and she remembered little bits and pieces about them. She had a gift in that every person she met became a friend. Going to eat there was always about hoping you'd also get to see Peggy.

Peggy passed away a couple of days ago. It felt like a punch in the gut when we heard that--and we know it was the same to everyone who heard the terrible news. We are grieving along with her family (and the people at the restaurant who were like her family too). Words feel so inadequate right now. This is a loss to our entire community.

Rest well, Peggy. We will all miss you.

Members of the Prince William community are mourning a member of the team at Montclair Family Restaurant after Peggy Curry, 70, passed away at the eatery Friday.

There are no heat lamps or microwaves on Dave's trailer, so no matter what you order--from a hotdog combo to a shrimp or chicken nugget basket or even a cinnamon churro--it is made just for you when you order it!

Today is the first day of the more eco-friendly Dave's Dogs as the Virginia's styrofoam ban took effect for small businesses July 1. Change is sometimes hard, but this one doesn't suck as much as styrofoam does so it's a good change. We will be using new hot dog and meal containers starting this weekend.

Dave's Dogs is CLOSED TODAY. Not because of the weather (although it is HOT HOT HOT), but because Virginia's styrofoam ban took effect July 1 and our shipment of non-styrofoam food containers has been delayed (likely due to high demand as small restaurants and food trucks scramble to find alternatives). See you next weekend (we'll be styrofoam free)!

Happy Fourth of July!

Dave's open, but not the the public today. As he has done every year for the past few years, he is feeding fire fighters and other first responders at a local fire station.

Dave will be open but closed to the public Saturday. He does a special first responders appreciation event every July 4 at a local firehouse.

We aren't yet sure whether he will be able to open Sunday. He may die from the heat on Saturday, or it just may be too hot for him to deal with that kind of heat two days in a row. We'll post Sunday morning . . .

Please note that we will NOT be open tomorrow (Friday) at the Kelly building. While our schedule is usually that we are open the first Friday of every month there, tomorrow is a holiday and they are closed (so we will be closed as well).

A heads up about our locations this coming weekend--and ongoing.

Our complicated back and forth location schedule has been confusing to a lot of people (including us at times!). Beginning July 5 (we have a special first-responders event we do every year on July 4), we will be at the 13478 Minnieville Road location on SATURDAY and at Tractor Supply (14700 Silverdale Drive) on SUNDAY (except when we have a special or private event scheduled). Hopefully this will make it easier for people to find us on weekends.

A reminder that we have an online public calendar (through Google calendar). You can check it any time you want to see if we're open (and where). It's also a good way to see if we're available for your private event.
