Some moments in sports become unforgettable because of what they represent, not just what was won.

In this photo, two players brought their late teammate’s children onto the ice for the official Olympic gold medal team photo. Just weeks before the Olympics, their teammate Johnny Gaudreau and his brother were tragically killed by a drunk driver while riding their bikes near their home in New Jersey. He left behind his wife and two young children.

Johnny helped build this team and dreamed of representing his country on the Olympic stage. When Team USA won gold and the final photo was taken, his teammates made sure his children were standing where he should have been.

It was a quiet act of love in the middle of the biggest celebration of their lives. A reminder that even in victory, grief and remembrance still exist. And that family does not stop being family just because someone is gone.

Stories like this remind us why people gather together. We come together to celebrate. We come together to mourn. We come together to support one another through both.

Today, we are thinking about legacy, loyalty, and the way small gestures can carry deep meaning. Hug your people a little longer. Tell the stories of the ones you miss. And remember that kindness can live inside even the biggest moments.
