Church safety problems almost never happen in straight lines.
Linear thinking = “A leads to B leads to C”
Real life (especially with people) = spaghetti bowl of emotions, variables, and chaos.
Over the next few days- I’m going to share 8 reasons- on why and how linear thinking can quietly wreck a church safety team:
2. You Assume Behavior Has One Cause
Linear:
“He’s acting weird → he must be a threat.”
Reality:
That person could be:
• Autistic and overstimulated
• Grieving
• Having a diabetic episode
• New and socially anxious
Linear thinking pushes teams toward premature escalation instead of assessment.
