Feed the Troops 2017 is officially complete. Uncle Leroy's BBQ, G-pa D's BBQ, and Caveman BBQ teamed up with a number of volunteers to serve the troops at Fairchild AFB today. Set up, prep, and cooking commenced yesterday and serving happened over lunch today. We cooked 90 racks of ribs, 300 lbs of pulled pork, and went through 550 buns. The theme was "Thank you" "Thank you" from both sides of the tables. I cant remember a more fulfilling event to be a part of. Thank you

Took a trip down to see family in lovely Fredericksburg Texas last month. Dad and I went over to Lockhart for a day and hit the big four over there - Smitty's, Black's, Chisholm Trail, and Kreuz market. They all carry the feeling of a working mans day mixed with traditional BBQ methods. There is a certain degree of reverence that takes place when one who's favorite past time is BBQ enters any of these places where the history of Texas BBQ has been molded and shaped. Black's BBQ was the best, in my humble opinion. The best coleslaw, the best potato salad, the best BBQ beef, and the best BBQ vibe.Its a game of pacing yourself coupled with indulgent BBQ delights when undertaking a days tour of these historic places all at once. Thank's Dad!

The new Competition Unit - a Yoder Kingman! I have it seasoned out and have two cooks on it. Love the quality of the build. So much easier to maintain temps and super easy to move around with the four wheels on it. Put some Nomex felt on the seams and she runs true and tight. She just needs a name now!

New year and on the trail to replacing all of the lost items. New BBQ smoker on the way and working on preparing for a new season. It seems some theodicy has taken place as we were needing to change and had to increase capacity in order to be able to meet the needs of the charity events that are on the horizon. We are going to come back in a much better place.

This truck drove into the cul de sac in my neighborhood and drove off with my enclosed trailer. He backed right up in my driveway, hooked up and left in a matter of minutes in broad daylight. If you see this truck in your neighborhood, he is scouting for stuff to steal or is in the process of stealing. It is a 2015/2016 Ford 4 door truck, white with 6 spoke chrome wheels.

This is a 2014 - 6 x 10 Interstate loadrunner trailer that was stolen. Yeah....its small, but jam packed with coolers, canopies, tables, and kitchen stuff. Plus an Oklahoma Joe smoker.

A Spokane Valley man trying to do good suddenly gets part of his livelihood ripped out of his front yard. Keith Pursch was getting ready to use his barbeque trailer to help feed women and children ...

Well, looks like we are down for a while. Our trailer with all of our gear was stolen right out of the driveway in broad daylight. I got video. I got my knives and two of three smokers. Everything else is gone, gone, gone.

Caveman BBQ improved to 15th place out of 176 competing teams in the Pacific NW region this year! We took our first grand championship as well. The chicken category really carried us this year with a 7th place ranking in the region....Nice work Kurt!

Caveman BBQ walked away with second place in Pork shoulder and 2nd place in chicken at the Grand Coulee harvest festival over the last weekend. It was a fantastic event that included a Spam category and a steak category on Saturday along with the usual meats turned in on Sunday. Caveman placed 4th in Spam and 10th in steak. See you all next year!!

Heading out to compete at the Grand Coulee Harvest Festival over this coming weekend. There will be a Steak and Spam categories on Saturday and the regular competition meats on Sunday. There are 17 competitors signed up which will bring the best pitmasters that the PNW has to Grand Coulee for the final showdown of the season! Whoop!!!

Cavemen BBQ spent the weekend competing at Smokin in the Root in Stevensville Montana. We took home a 2nd place in Ribs, a 4th place in Chicken, and 9th place in Pork shoulder. A lot of excellent teams showed up this year which made the competition very tight. Not much room for errors and in the BBQ world there is plenty of opportunity to make a few. Shout out to Hoagie Smokes for the GC and to G-pa D's for bringing the crown on the open category to Spokane!
