But after 9 years in business, we’ve learned that success isn’t about having the perfect event—it’s about showing up, serving great churros, building relationships, and staying committed to the journey.

From school events and corporate caterings to festivals, weddings, and community gatherings, every event is an opportunity to learn, improve, and grow.

A recent post from resonated with us at Planet Churro.

Over the years, we’ve participated in some amazing events, met incredible people, and built lasting friendships along the way. We’re grateful for every opportunity we’ve had to serve the Houston community.

One thing we’ve learned after nearly a decade in business is that bigger crowds don’t always mean bigger profits.

As food truck owners, it’s easy to get caught up in attendance estimates, social media hype, and promises of massive crowds. But experience has taught us that success isn’t measured by how many people walk through the gates—it’s measured by the relationships you build, the customers who return, and the partnerships you create.

That’s one of the reasons we’ve become more selective about the events we participate in. We prefer working with organizers who value their vendors, care about the attendee experience, and are focused on building something sustainable rather than simply collecting vendor fees.

Many of the events we attend today are hosted by people we’ve worked with for years. They’re not just event coordinators anymore—they’ve become friends, supporters, and part of the Planet Churro family.

We’re also fortunate that catering has become the foundation of our business. While events can be a great way to connect with the community, we’ve found that private events, schools, churches, corporate clients, and repeat customers provide the consistency that helps small businesses thrive.

At the end of the day, we’d rather serve the right event than every event.

Hey y’all… as our 9th anniversary approaches, allow me to reintroduce myself.

My name is Mike —

Veteran. Husband. Father. Grandfather.

Owner & Operator of Planet Churro.

Before the “Churro Mike” days… this was me 12 years ago:

A multi-degreed business professional with 20 years of experience in Healthcare and Pharmacy Benefits Management — working in both the public and private sectors.

But I hit a point…

I was fed up with office politics and corporate bullsh*t.

So in 2017, I took a leap of faith.

And that leap turned into what Planet Churro is today —

The premier churro caterer in the HTX area.

Now I’ll be real with you…

The last 18 months haven’t been easy.

Over 100 restaurants closed last year alone due to rising costs — rent, goods, services… and that doesn’t even include the food trucks that shut down.

Business slowed down.

But we didn’t stop.

We adapted.
We evolved.
We pushed forward.

We expanded our menu and signed up for more events — not just catering.

We became more intentional about who we work with.

We partner with reputable coordinators we trust… people who’ve become friends — family.

Because for us, it’s never just about money.

It’s about relationships, experiences, and making it all worth it.

As the weather warms up —

Be on the lookout. We’ll be out there. 🔥

And on a personal note…

So much has changed over these 9 years.

I’m married now.
I’m a grandfather.
And I’ve met so many incredible people who inspire me daily.

To our customers and clients —

You’re not just customers… you’re family.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

And if there’s one thing I hope you take from this…

Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Ignore the noise. Ignore the naysayers.
