Please keep independent contractors like personal chefs, dog walkers, cleaners, handymen etc in mind during the recovery. For many of us ALL, or a significant portion of our income vanished in the fires too, and we do not have the safety net of unemployment to fall back on.

House cleaners, gardeners and dog walkers won’t easily be able to replace clients and trust built up over years.

Dear Followers:

My Instagram account was hacked last month. I jumped through every hoop Meta lists to restore it, yet the hackers managed to delete my recovery email and phone number faster than I could hop into action (I don't live on IG or my email, and if you do not respond to Meta's email warning your info has been changed within 60 minutes, they err on the side of the hacker - sh*ttiest security ever - one would presume if no acton was taken they need to lock the account, but instead they say "if this was you, no action is required" and handed my account over to the criminals). All efforts since have fallen on Meta's deaf ears.

I spent more than 5 years working diligently to build a 5600 person following, both through paid advertising and organically, spending untold hours of my time creating content that helped drive Meta's profits as well as marketing my own brand. I am livid that Meta has not responded to my pleas for help, and even though I did receive an automated response that they would restore my account in the next 4-5 business days, it's been crickets ever since.

As much as I miss communicating with all of you, and truly appreciate the support you have shown The Roving Stove through all those years, Meta's lack of support and accountability has left a very bad taste in my mouth - which is why, even though I do have another IG account I cannot bring myself to waste my energy helping a company boost their profits when they do zilch to protect those members that have helped them get there.

Any advice and/or your thoughts?

How can you help and how long will it take?

By forcing the writers' and actors' strikes, the studios cost the California economy more than $5 billion and caused untold anguish. Those wounds won't heal overnight.

It's been a particularly difficult time for personal chefs, especially in Los Angeles where a significant portion of our clientele hale from an industry that's been shut down for months, on the heels of more shutdowns due to the pandemic. Couple those losses with the cost of ingredients nearly doubling with inflation and rising minimum wage staffing costs (eroding any potential profit margin), while being unable to raise our own fees to keep up with the substantial cost of living increases (if we wish to stay in business). Since 2017, Tamie Cook has worked as a personal chef for several Hollywood actors who’ve set up shop in metro Atlanta as they filmed TV shows and movies in the Peach State. But since the Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes, business has dried up.
