dearest found coffee community,
i’ve been thinking about accountability + integrity a lot lately. someone close to me almost got scammed via those dumb texts that tell you that your fake traffic ticket fine is overdue. it’s becoming a scarier world — esp for our / kiddos — and i can’t help but worry.
as life becomes even more technologically complex and auto-generated, i often think about the significance of face-to-face meetings. i pride myself in fostering an environment that is an anchor in NELA. found coffee is a third place that hopefully aids in authentic, genuine, beautiful connections. if i could share something that wrote about us recently:
“Found Coffee, owned by Annie Choi, has been a cornerstone of our community for the past 10 years, offering more than just coffee. It provides a safe, welcoming space for people to gather, work, and find comfort in each other’s company. Over the years, Found Coffee has become a ‘third place’ for the people of Eagle Rock and Northeast Los Angeles, a refuge for all walks of life, whether it is a place to celebrate milestones, seek solace, or simply spend time with friends. Annie’s dedication to the community is clear, as she has intentionally created an environment that nurtures relationships and fosters a sense of belonging.
Annie’s commitment to giving back extends beyond the walls of her coffee shop. She consistently donates a portion of her sales to causes that directly benefit those in need, and her actions reflect her integrity and perseverance. When the Altadena fires occurred, she hosted a silent auction and donated the proceeds of her sales to Cal Fire to support relief efforts. She is also a distribution site for NELA, where community members can drop off dry goods that are delivered to people experiencing food insecurity in Northeast Los Angeles. Annie’s generosity is woven into the daily operations of Found Coffee.
In addition to her work with local mutual aid efforts, Annie has supported numerous local schools and PTAs and has contributed to many community organizations. Her ongoing commitment shows how deeply she cares about the well-being of those around her and how actively she contributes to a stronger, more connected community.
Through her perseverance, compassion, and consistency, Annie has built more than a business. She has built a true community space that continues to make a lasting impact."
i am truly so honored to do this for + with all of you. let's please continue to be people of integrity, accountability, + beautiful community.
truly verklempt,
annie
