Kitchen Sink on Trail

Kitchen Sink on Trail I have been on the AT since the Summer of 2020 spreading kindness and warmth. In 2021, I learned that there was another "Kitchen Sink" on trail.

He goes by "Call me Kitchen Sink", and so, I started spelling my name "K1tch3n Sink" to differentiate us.

I've been living/working/hiking on trail since the Summer of 2020. In that time, I've hiked over 2800 miles. While I've yet to complete a full Thru of the entire AT, I've hiked 400 miles at both ends more than 3 times. I've hiked in every state. I've also been to 75% of the trail heads either hiking through, or as support crew for other hikers. Notably, I've supported 83 yo Nimblewill Nomad, 76 yo Birthday Girl and 79 yo Legend. My purpose on trail has always been to have on hand what someone else might need, when they need it, and to spread kindness and warmth. Though, I have a low tolerance for entitled hikers who expect first class treatment over an authentic experience.

With all that being said, I'm writing to address misinformation, fear mongering, manipulation and flat out lies being spread on trail in the area of Andover, Maine. The perpetrator is well known in the community and generally speaking, nothing that is said can be believed. Anyone and everyone I've asked about her has nothing positive to say. And she is clearly well practiced at playing the victim.

However, worst of all is that she has a personal grudge for one of the most authentic and iconic hostels on trail. And I wish to dispel the petty vindictiveness that is being spread in the area. Not to mention that it is my belief that hikers are being preyed upon and the spirit of the trail is severely diminished by her.

The Cabin Hostel in Andover is run by a very spry 93 yo Honey (Margery Towne) who is very "with it" cognitively speaking. She continues to cook every night for hikers and has little need for personal assistance.

Staying at The Cabin and sharing dinner with Honey is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Few have been present for more trail history than Honey, and nobody cares more about hikers.

Yes, The Hostel may be a bit rundown, though far less so than some. But it is cleaned regularly, and has an authentic homey essence.

The Cabin is a home not a hotel. Where the true spirit of the trail is the priority. And where "Campground Rules" are encouraged. "Always leave a place better than you found it."

"I reserve my trust and friendship for those who display empathy, kindness, and gratitude."
