I was having a very interesting conversation Tuesday evening. Many people choose to fast for spiritual reasons, during the Lenten Season. A popular fast is The Daniel Fast. It is not as hard as it seems. First, know why you are fasting. Second, be clear about the fast guidelines. The cool thing (in my opinion) about the Daniel Fast, is it gives you the opportunity to eat WHOLE foods. No meats, sugars, sweeteners or processed foods are allowed.
My suggestion, PREPARATION IS KEY!! If we fail to prepare, we're prepared to fail! Be prepared to ether go shopping (at least) once a week, or become friends with your freezer. Your ingredients should be fresh (or frozen), but not canned. This way you control sodium and sugar content. It's cold in NY, so for the next couple of weeks, I've chosen to eat a lot of soup. This morning, I made a HUGE pot of Spinach Lentil Soup. I will also be making Split Pea Soup and Black-Eyed Pea Soup (in the next 2 days). As a snack, I am doing Garlic Hummus and veggies. I will post recipes later. Breakfast for me consists of fruit. But be wary of your sugar intake. My suggestion: Go heavier on veggies.
Happy Fasting!!
