Xochiquetzal Council is an indigenous-led Mexican community organization who practice ancestral healing traditions and cultural preservation and education. We are proud to host them at La Contenta Oeste on Opening Day of the FIFA World Cup 2026, where they will be performing a “limpia” (a traditional spiritual and energetic cleansing ritual) to launch our World Cup celebrations. This will be followed by a ceremonial dance performance (danza azteca/conchera). Doors open at noon on Thursday. We look forward to welcoming you to La Contenta Oeste! 🇲🇽⚽️🏆

Shown in the background of this flyer is ‘Ajologol.’ Over 4 meters tall and made of 36,000 pieces of steel by Durango, MX-based .esculturas, Ajologol is the name of a polygonal sculpture of an ajolote, positioned prominently in Mexico City’s Zócalo during the World Cup. The critically endangered and charismatic ajolote, a species of salamander endemic to Mexico City and environs, has become a symbol and unofficial mascot for the World Cup in Mexico City. According to the artists, the ajolote “represents our history, our identity and our capacity to transform.”🦎🇲🇽
