Honoring the Legacy of Officer John Hetland

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the line-of-duty death of Officer John Hetland. We take this opportunity to remember and honor a dedicated officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community.

For more than two decades, Officer Hetland served with honor and integrity. His courage, professionalism, and devotion to protecting others continue to inspire those who wear the badge and all who knew him.

As we reflect on his life and service, we remain profoundly grateful for his sacrifice. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the community he served so faithfully. Though years have passed, his legacy endures and his impact continues to be felt.

Well done to President Jerry Biggart and the entire Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin team for an outstanding Fire Ops 101 event yesterday.

Fire Ops 101 gives elected officials and community stakeholders a firsthand look at the realities firefighters face every day. From hands-on training evolutions to experiencing the physical and mental demands of the job, participants gained valuable insight into what it takes to serve and protect our communities.

Programs like this help bridge the gap between policymakers, community leaders, and the firefighters who answer the call 24 hours a day. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the PFFW for continuing to educate and advocate for Wisconsinโ€™s fire service.

Special thanks to President Jerry Biggart and the entire Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin for making the event a success. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

From all of us at Racine Professional Fire Fighters Local 321, we thank the fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy every day.

May we never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Big shoutout to L-321 member Noah Curtis on being named a 2026 Hero Week Salute to Service Honoree! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Noah comes from a family with deep roots in the fire service, so itโ€™s safe to say helping others runs in the blood. Weโ€™re proud to see one of our own recognized for the work he does serving the City of Racine every day.

โš ๏ธ THIS DEVICE COULD SAVE YOUR LIFEโ€ฆ BUT ONLY IF IT STILL WORKS โš ๏ธ

Most carbon monoxide alarms only last 5โ€“7 years.

That alarm sitting quietly on your wall may already be expired and unable to detect dangerous carbon monoxide in your home.

Carbon monoxide is:
โŒ Invisible
โŒ Odorless
โŒ Deadly

Take 2 minutes today to:
โœ”๏ธ Check the manufacture date on your CO alarms
โœ”๏ธ Replace old or expired units
โœ”๏ธ Test your alarms and batteries
โœ”๏ธ Make sure alarms are installed near sleeping areas

A working carbon monoxide alarm can mean the difference between life and death for your family.

๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ SUMMER WATER SAFETY STARTS NOW โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

Today, members of the Racine Firefighters L-321 had the opportunity to train alongside the North Beach Lifeguards as they prepare for another busy summer season protecting our community.

One of the newest tools being utilized this year is the EMILY device โ€” a remote-controlled flotation device capable of traveling up to 20 mph and reaching victims up to 1/4 mile away. This equipment allows someone in distress to stay afloat and hold on until rescuers can safely reach them.

North Beach Lifeguards officially begin staffing the beach on May 30th.

As temperatures rise and more families head to the water, please remember:
โœ… Wear a life jacket
โœ… Know your limits
โœ… Never swim alone
โœ… Keep an eye on children near the water

Racine Firefighters Local 321, along with community partners, also has life jackets available for loan from the life jacket boxes located along the beach to help keep everyone safe this summer.

Have fun. Stay safe. Weโ€™ll be here when you need us. ๐Ÿš’
