The week before a Farm To Table dinner is always frenetic. There is food to source, wine to buy, napkins to press - I am sure you get the picture. Lots of things to do. When I was a kid, Ernest and Julio Gallo, the California wine company, advertised on television. They ended every commercial with the tag line "We will sell no wine before its time". We were having dinner with some friends the other night and a story came out about a Kansas farming family that won a FREE trip to Hawaii - can you imagine a FREE trip to paradise? My guests are absolutely awesome! They were so patient with the heat, a little delay in dinner and very gracious to share "Adventure" stories. T minus 2.5 hours and counting down. Things have come together nicely and we are hoping that our guests have a wonderful time. Karen did the place settings along with our daughter Audra. Hannah did the centerpieces. Josh is going to be our bartender. Truly a family event. It's a little hot, but by dinner time the sun will be dropping towards the trees. When I randomly picked "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" as the theme for the Farm To Table Dinner I had no idea how popular the concept is. At the last dinner on May 5th (Cinco De Mayo), I wore a large sombrero in honor of the day (even though the dinner was an Italian theme). I had a chance to visit Barbara and Jim the owners of Batia Vineyards (www.batiavineyards.com) which is located in our neighborhood. We reviewed several of their current offerings and discussed which ones best fit the upcoming dinner menu. I think everyone is going to love their wines. Batia has some excellent offerings.
