Jacque wanted flamingo & fabulous, leaving the design up to me after she picked the flavors. Three tier flamingo cake (two tiers are double barrel - which are really 2 tier cakes of the same size stacked to look like 1 tier) with dark chocolate and vanilla sponge, strawberry filling and buttercream.
The feathers are edible; each one made from 3 layers of wafer paper. Each paper hand painted, dried, cut, glued (made with wafer paper) the wire down onto a layer, adding another layer and then finally the third layer. After drying, cutting the feathers into tiny slivers and lastly steaming each feather to separate and curl the layers. They were incredibly time consuming and messy! š¤Ŗ Iāll probably find feather pieces years from now! The flamingo heads and necks are handmade fondant.
