Not farm related, but I have to share this amazing event for anyone in the area with girls who may be interested in aviation! Our daughter attended the Girls With Altitude event at the Goshen Airport yesterday and had an amazing time! This is a super cool, FREE event they do every year where girls get to fly in a private plane, meet women pilots and mechanics in the aviation field, see an airshow, help build an airplane, use flight simulators, and learn about exciting careers in aviation. Even the food trucks were free! Our youngest is going to start classes now to get her student pilot’s license ❤️ Don’t miss this next year!

Look at the difference in color between our pasture raised, heritage pork and commercial pork from the grocery store 🤯 This came from one of our kunekune’s, which are considered a lard pig and have a much higher fat content. But that fat is also completely different from the fat from commercial pigs. This pork is full of heart healthy Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 fats! The Idaho Pasture Pigs we will be butchering next have the same dark red meat and healthy fats, but get a little bigger and don’t have quite as much lard.

Our herd has been growing! We are up to 31 pigs now 🐷 😍 Our piggies are out in a large pasture living as pigs should, eating 🐛 bugs and🌱 grass, and are supplemented with high quality Kalmbach grain and spent brewers grains 🌾 We currently have some purebred Idaho Pasture Pigs for sale if anyone is interested! From 8-10 week old piglets to ~150 pound feeders. Message me if interested!

I dropped one of our pigs off at the butcher this week and cried the whole way home. His name was Elvis, and we have loved him and cared for him for a year. I get asked all the time “how can you butcher animals that you love so much?!” This right here is how. I would rather feel the emotions that we should feel when we are ending a life, than buy neatly packaged meat from a grocery store that came from factory farming operations. Sure it’s easy to disassociate from the reality of what that animals life was like when you grab a package of bacon off the shelf. But it doesn’t change what that reality was. I’m not some PETA loving extremist, but knowing where my food comes from and that it had a happy, healthy, natural life in a nice big green pasture is worth the sadness I feel at butcher time. Pigs especially have zero quality of life in confined feeding operations. As soon as we are able to produce enough to share, we will be offering pasture raised pork, beef, chicken, and turkey at affordable prices! Our goal is to match local grocery store prices with everything we sell from our farm so everyone can afford a better option ❤️
