About Margieh:
AJourney of Nurturing: From Nurse to Baker, Farmer, and Entrepreneur
Picture a small kitchen in the heart of Zambia, filled with the warm scent of freshly baked bread or pastries and the sound of laughter. This is where Margieh’s story begins – not in a fancy culinary school or a high-tech hospital, but in the humble home of her aunt. It’s a story that weaves together the healing touch of a nurse, the creative spirit of a baker, the nurturing hands of a farmer, and the visionary mind of an entrepreneur.
As a young girl, Margieh would stand on tiptoes in her aunt’s kitchen, wide-eyed and curious, watching as her aunt—a nurse by profession and a baker by passion—expertly folded and kneaded dough. These early moments planted the seeds of what would become a lifelong love affair with baking.
Today, Margieh stands as a testament to the power of following one’s heart while serving others. As a Registered Theatre Nurse pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Zambia, she brings healing and comfort to patients at Chimwemwe Level One Hospital in Kitwe. Her role as in-charge for both male and female wards speaks to her leadership and dedication in the medical field.
But Margieh’s care for others extends far beyond hospital walls. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make healthcare more accessible, she runs a platform offering free health consultations. Here, she bridges gaps in the healthcare system, connecting people with top medical professionals and helping source essential medical equipment for those managing chronic conditions.
Yet, through all her medical endeavors, the sweet aroma of baking never left Margieh’s senses. Determined to honor this passion, she embarked on a culinary education journey, attending baking and cooking classes both in-person and online. Her graduation from White Line Entrepreneurship School marked not just the completion of a course, but the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
This newfound expertise gave birth to Margiehkaps Treats—a vibrant company that brings joy to celebrations across Zambia with custom cakes and event decorations. But for Margieh, success is sweetest when shared. Through online lessons and a bustling WhatsApp group, she has become a virtual mentor to aspiring bakers both in Zambia and beyond, spreading the joy of baking one recipe at a time.
As if juggling nursing and baking weren’t enough, Margieh’s connection to her roots runs deep—quite literally. On a plot of land near Kamfinsa Prisons, she cultivates traditional Zambian crops, promoting local cuisine through her company and ensuring that the flavors of her homeland continue to thrive in a globalizing world.
If you could peek into Margieh’s life today, you’d see a colorful patchwork of experiences – each one as rich and flavorful as the ingredients in her favorite recipes. As a nurse, baker, teacher, and farmer, she brings a unique blend of expertise to her cookbook. Her journey from a young girl inspired by her aunt’s baking to a multifaceted entrepreneur showcases the power of nurturing diverse passions alongside a professional career.
This cookbook you hold in your hands is more than a collection of recipes. It’s a legacy of love, a fusion of traditional Zambian flavors with international techniques, and a reflection of Margieh’s lifelong commitment to nurturing others—be it through medicine, baking, or the fruits of her land. It represents years of learning, experimenting, and teaching, bringing together the best of her varied experiences.
