A species belonging to the mullet family Mugilidae is the Flathead grey mullet. It is an important food fish and is found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide.
These Mullets feed on zooplankton and as they grow old they feed primarily on algae in freshwater. The species is euryhaline, meaning that the fish can acclimate to different levels of salinity.
Mullets also are a specialty of many seafood restaurants, they are even dried and pickled to make fesikh. Fried mullet is most popular, but smoked, baked, and canned mullet are also eaten.
