Tomorrow is not a normal Monday, so we’re not treating it like one.

The Pier Restaurant will be open for the public holiday, which means you can finish the long weekend with a cosy table by the fire, a delicious meal, and no washing up waiting at home.

Not a bad old view, is it?

This artist’s impression shows the Largs Bay jetty looking back towards the Largs Pier Hotel, somewhere around 1890–1894.

The rails, the lamps, the long walk down the jetty, and us sitting there at the end of it all.

A fair bit has changed since then, but we do still know our good side.

This weather doesn’t exactly invite a getaway by the ocean...

The calm, cosy atmosphere of a heritage-style room with a view of Largs Bay from your bed, wrapped up in winter clothing, sipping on a hot cup of barista-made coffee from downstairs while you watch the waves crash on to the shore.

Sounds like the perfect winter staycation.

We’ve seen a fair few dinners in the Pier Restaurant over the years, and the best ones seem to have a few things in common.

A room set properly. Food that is thoughtfully prepared. Wine with a bit to say. And someone at the table who knows the story behind the bottle.

Next Friday, we welcome First Drop Wines for five courses, matched wines, and special guest John Retsas, leading the evening.

If you’ve been meaning to book, now would be the sensible time.
