Good Morning All!
In a change that we're excited to see, as of yesterday, new country-of-origin labelling laws for seafood came into effect for all venues and outlets that sell ready-to-eat seafood, including fish and chip shops, cafes and restaurants.
Venues will need to label seafood as either Australian (A), imported (I) or of mixed origin (M).
While we support these measures to ensure that customers are better informed about where their seafood comes from, we believe that the requirements could have gone further to identify whether a species is wild-caught or farmed. For now, you'll still need to ask the question, particularly for species like Barramundi.
You can read more about the changes at:

While fishmongers have been required to label country of origin for many years, you can be assured that Agnes Water Seafood sells only Australian seafood, nothing imported.
Today in fresh local, wild-caught fish fillets, we have:
- Spanish Mackerel
- Barramundi
- Coral Trout
- Red Emperor
- Goldband Snapper
- Large Mouth Nannygai
- Rosy Snapper
- Grassy Sweetlip
- Goldspot Cod
- Spangled Emperor
- Hussar
- Whiting
- Tea-Leaf Trevally
- Jewel Fish.
Also, thank you for the overwhelming support for the changes to our bag policy last week. We really appreciate all the kind comments!
See you at the servo πππ
New labelling laws for hospitality venues serving seafood should help diners know exactly what they are eating.
