I’ve seen so many conversations about the dot cake trend lately.

“It’s boring.”
“Hundreds and thousands aren’t good for you.”
“It doesn’t taste like much.”

And maybe that’s true for some.

But I think everyone is forgetting one thing...

It’s supposed to be fun. 💜

Not every dessert has to be the richest, fanciest or most over-the-top thing you’ve ever eaten.

Sometimes it’s about nostalgia.

It’s about remembering birthday parties, school holidays, standing on a chair helping Mum make fairy bread, or watching your kids’ faces light up over something so wonderfully simple.

I’ve been making fairy bread treats for years now. Fairy Bread Yo-Yos, Fairy Bread Hedgehog, and, of course, my Fairy Bread Loaded Cookies. So this trend has made me smile because it’s bringing a little bit of childhood magic back into the kitchen.

Life gives us enough serious stuff to deal with.
If a cookie covered in hundreds and thousands makes someone smile, then I’d say it’s done exactly what it was meant to do.

So while everyone else is jumping on the dot trend... you can grab one of the OG Fairy Bread Loaded Cookies. 😂💜

They’ve landed at all my cafes today, so if you’re heading out for a coffee this weekend, treat yourself.

Spread a little joy.

Make a memory.

And never let anyone convince you that growing up means you have to stop having fun.

Anyway... I’m off to bake the next trend. 😂💜

Guess what? You can now grab The Dessert Nerd desserts from Luchianos Pizza 🥳💜

That’s right... you’ve now got somewhere to grab dessert after 2pm! 😂

I’m so excited to be working with another locally owned small business. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know how much I love supporting local businesses that support our community.

Now... before you ask...

Yes, I totally forgot to take a photo of the desserts. 🤦‍♀️🤣

So you’re just going to have to head into Luchiano’s and have a look for yourself!

And while you’re there, grab a pizza... because pizza and dessert just make sense. 😜

Thank you to the team at Luchiano’s for welcoming The Dessert Nerd into your shop. I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks. 💜

Not everything that comes out of my kitchen makes it straight onto the menu.

Sometimes it needs a little more nerding first. 😂💜

These little Raspberry & Lemon Cheesecake Jars are super cute. They look beautiful, and they taste good...

But good isn’t the goal.

I want people to take one spoonful and go, “Oh wow.”

I’ve been working with the lovely Lizzie from addicted2cwc for a little while now on creating a dessert in a jar. She has this awesome jar canner, so we’ve been experimenting together to make something that’s not only delicious but also keeps well in the fridge.

That means making a few practical changes.
I swapped fresh cream for long-life cream because it’s more reliable for a product that’s going to spend a few days refrigerated. Fresh berries also don’t last long enough, so I used raspberry jam instead. Food safety will always come before convenience in my kitchen.

The problem?

I don’t use artificial flavours or additives, so while these taste nice... they’re just not giving me the raspberry hit I’m chasing.

And that’s okay.

That’s what recipe testing is for.

Sometimes the first version isn’t the final version. Sometimes you keep tweaking until it tastes exactly how you imagined it.

Because I’d rather wait a little longer and serve something I’m genuinely proud of than rush something that’s just “good enough.”

Back to the kitchen... I think this one has a few more delicious experiments left in it. 💜

It’s funny how life has a way of reminding you what’s really important.

Last Friday, Marc got the phone call we’d been hoping for.

His scans were all clear and, after three years of blood tests every three months and, as he calls them, his “rides on the machines,” he’s finally been moved to six-monthly check-ups.

It might not sound like much to everyone else, but to us, it’s a milestone we’ve dreamed about for a very long time.

Then, less than 30 minutes later, an email from the Starlight Foundation landed in my inbox.

It was a last-minute request for a dessert box to be delivered today for a ver special birthday.

Normally I don’t deliver on Tuesdays.

And yes, this box was paid for.

But the timing stopped me in my tracks.

While our family was celebrating a season of hope, another family was in the middle of one of life’s harder seasons.

It reminded me why I do what I do.

Life will always give us reasons to worry.

But it also gives us reasons to gather.

To celebrate birthdays.
To make memories.
To laugh.
To find little pockets of joy, even when life feels uncertain.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the last few years, it’s this...

Don’t wait.

Don’t wait for life to slow down.
Don’t wait until everything is perfect.
Don’t wait for the “right” time.

Celebrate the little things.

Gather around the table.

Eat the birthday cake.

Make the memories.

Because one day, you’ll realise those little moments were never little at all.

Life can be messy and beautiful at exactly the same time.

So gather anyway.

I hope we never stop giving ourselves reasons to celebrate. 💜

Less than 24 hours and the kids will officially be on school holidays!

Whoop whoop! 🎉

You guys all know I love the school holidays. Sleep-ins, movie nights, sleepovers... I’m here for all of it.

As we were leaving school today, *The Final Countdown* started playing for the end-of-school “bell”... and honestly, I’m still not sure if that was more for the teachers or the students. 😂

I know a lot of parents dread the school holidays. It can be a juggling act between work, bored kids and trying to keep everyone entertained.

But as I’ve got older, I’ve realised I actually love the slower pace.

The lunches don’t have to be packed.
The mornings aren’t such a rush.
And somehow, my kids still actually want to spend time with me... so I’m going to soak it up while they let me. 😂💜

What have you all got planned for the holidays? Anything fun, or are you just looking forward to slowing down a little?

🍕 Say Cheese Pizza is now open in Maiden Gully!

Now, you all know how I feel about supporting local businesses.

Michelle and her family have been supporting The Dessert Nerd for so many years now that I’ve honestly lost count of how many birthdays, celebrations and special occasions I’ve been lucky enough to be a small part of.

So when I heard the Maiden Gully store was opening, I wanted to send over a little celebration cake.

Because while Say Cheese Pizza isn’t new, bringing a business into a new community still takes a huge amount of work behind the scenes. Long days, planning, problem solving and making sure everything is ready for opening day.

And I think it’s going to be a fantastic addition for Maiden Gully and the surrounding area.

Congratulations to Michelle and the whole team. Wishing you every success with the new store. 💜

💜 Today’s delivery was for a sweet goodbye.

Not the sad kind.

The “good luck for the future, we’ll miss you and thank you for everything” kind of goodbye.

This Family Favourites Box has been one of the most popular things I’ve made since I first launched it at Christmas. Packed full of slices and cookies in a mix of flavours, there’s usually something for everyone.

And that’s exactly why I love it.

It’s not just for birthdays.

It’s for the thank yous.
The goodbyes.
The new jobs.
The Mother’s Days.
The “thinking of you” moments.

The gatherings that happen around lunchroom tables, kitchen benches and afternoon cuppas.

Because sometimes food isn’t really about the food.

Sometimes it’s about bringing people together.

Well... this happened 😂🍪

I decided to make someone close to me a birthday cake, but with a difference.

You know me, I don’t really do the whole traditional cake thing. Not because there’s anything wrong with it, but because everyone does it.

So this is what I came up with.

Two giant layers of chocolate chip cookie cake, filled with cookies and cream buttercream and topped with a handful of childhood favourites.

Nothing super fancy.

No fondant.

And definitely not perfect.

BUT it tasted delicious.

I know there are plenty of cakes out there that look amazing and then you take a bite and think... meh.

Not from my kitchen.

For me, desserts are meant to be eaten, shared and enjoyed. If it happens to look pretty too, that’s just a bonus. 💜

Now tell me... would you pick a traditional birthday cake or a Cookie Cake?

P.S. Yes its on a cookie tray, because thats all I had at home that it would fir on. Hehe

Delivery Day!

Deliveries are done, the sun is out (for now ☀️), and it’s the perfect excuse to grab a little sweet treat for yourself and maybe one for a friend, work colleague or favourite human too.

Because let’s be honest, Mondays can be a bit rough.

Whether it’s a cookie with your coffee, a slice with your afternoon cuppa, or just a little something to make the day feel a bit brighter, sometimes the smallest treats make the biggest difference.

Just a little something to help get you both through Monday.

The funny thing is, my business isn’t really about desserts.

I mean, yes, I make desserts. Lots of them. Cookies, slices, cakes, brownies and all sorts of sweet treats.

But when I really stop and think about it, what I love most isn’t the food itself.

It’s what happens around the food.

It’s families sitting around a table after dinner.

It’s friends gathering for birthdays and celebrations.

It’s workmates sharing a morning tea.

It’s community groups coming together over coffee and cake.

It’s the conversations, the laughter, the memories and the connection.

I think that’s why I love teaching cooking classes so much too.

Yes, I want people to know how simple cooking can be. That you don’t always need packet mixes, jars and complicated ingredients.

But more than that, I love seeing people gain confidence.

I love seeing someone realise, “I can do this.”

I love seeing skills passed on to kids and grandkids.

I love seeing people gather around a bench and create something together.

Food has always brought people together.

It teaches independence.

It builds confidence.

It creates connection.

The desserts are just the vehicle.

The gathering is the point.

Maybe that’s why you’ll never see me chasing mass production.

What I really want to build is community.

A place where people feel welcome.

A place where people belong.

A place where people can gather around a table, share a meal, share a dessert and remember that life isn’t meant to be lived alone.

The Dessert Nerd was never really about the food.

It was always about the people. 💜
