When I was a child there was one thing I wanted and that was a genuine Fender Guitar… it was my Dream. I got my first proper left hand Fender in 1992…. If I’d known the future of the brand I would have stuck to my Asian copies.

Apologies to Bob Dylan for appropriating his song, But I’m sure that even Bob would approve…..
Reference notes…Leo Fender and George Fullerton co developed the shape of the Stratocaster and Fender overallWilliam refers to the late Bill Schulz, former US marketing head of Yamaha who with some brave investors bought Fender in’86 for 15000,000 US… for that money they bought an empty factory and trademarking. Mike Lewis was head of R and D later CEO before things went pear shaped.Margaret and Son Dave O’Loughlin owned the only independent Fender distributor in the world from the early 80’s through to the late 2000’s. They were fierce advocates for the brand until usurped.As for me? I sold a lot of Fender product from 1990 through to 2002.…I was also a warranty repairer and Fender’s A n R person in Brisbane during that period….. I put this clip up on Sunday and then deleted it, however having reviewed it, I think it's worthy of publication.... The song is a gut wrencher by Tom Waits and wife Kathleen Brennan.... who coincidently shares her name with local guitar/ electronics genius/ legend Tym Brennan's Wifey. Here's one for the geeks...... Claim.... "Gibson Lyre tremolo tailpieces don't hold tune".... really?.... some of my favourite guitarists/ songwriters swear by this whammy system... in particular Gary Louris and Jeff Tweedy. Artie, asked me to fit one to his 3 pick up SG. Apart from looking the absolute goods, this is a really high quality Ali Express knock off......... Does it stay in tune?...... Duh!. I've fitted quite a few of these babies over the years and they are wonderful.....Artem and I are super chuffed with his..... BTW.... this kid is so gorgeous he should be in a boy band rather than some gritty rock n roll outfit.... He'll end up doing something epic me thinks.....

I took my dear friend Haruka to Lone Pine today before she returns to Japan and we had the best time..... all the furry friends were there to greet us so I decided to try some Dylan on one of the residents.... The results of this test are yet to be assessed, however I know the humans seemed to enjoy it......

They say what defines a gentleman is one that plays banjo and chooses not to....I put harmonica in that same category, however this evening I put that aside to give you my rendition of Dylan's "Billy the Kid'. and yes, I can play it, but be patient, it does get better as it goes along I promise.....Bob and Jimi were and still are my guiding lights.... spontaneous with rough edges,...I'll take that any day to overproduced perfection.... I hope you enjoy this in that same spirit.... PS thank you to mum for my book of Dylan lyrics you bought me way back when I was a young'n... it's a talisman of sorts... Bless you Shirl Girl..RIP.... One last thing..... Happy Birthday to Michele Davis who ( as my Chaperone) sat through a Dylan Concert at Festival Hall with me in '79 which included a 45 minute ovation which culminated in the great one doing an extremely rare encore appearance... something he was infamous for not doing.... but I suppose the Park Royal was 500 mtrs away so he came back and did "The Times Times they are a Changing"..... etched into both our memories... for better or worse...###happy b day Sis.X

I'll sound like an Evangelical "Prosperity preacher" when I pronounce the following ... "I cannot believe my blessings!'.... Dear sir, I felt terrible your name didn't come to me today and was tied up with a client. I sorted your guitar last week in short order pre gig with a very simple repair, I am totally humbled by this gift. You asked how much the repair was and I said... "buy me a bottle of red". It was a throwaway line I often say, but today you really delivered. I'd love to say that I'll save it for a special occasion. I've just returned from a walk with my cat "Moreton B Davis: and had so much fun it seemed like the perfect time and OMG! it is gourmet!..... thank you so much. If you see an odd middle aged man in dungerees calling out to his cat "Hurry up boofhead!" you'll know it's me......total gratitude ######XX

Whenever Marcus Walmsley comes into the shop it "Walms" the bottom of our hearts...there! I said it..... Dad joke central.... i always get him to play for the camera.... whether it be bass or guitar, he never fails to deliver..... and he's hilarious to boot..... I really hope you enjoy this as much as Andre and I did. That '92 Custom Shop Strat is ridiculously cheap at 3500.00 inc factory case BTW

Please witness the final stage of a neck removal as carried out by the "not so little" master of the neck re set...... Andre "The Dre" East.... it's like watching a nose job.... fjk

Andre just found this wonderful clip of him playing his Stunning Baritone acoustic..... Can you imagine what it must feel like to build something so beautiful from what is at it's essence, flat pieces of timber and then play it with such passion.... When clients suggest I somehow "taught him everything he knows" I want to laugh...I'll defer to Luke of Kallquist Guitars who worked with me when Andre was a 15 year old. Luke was the closest thing to a mentor. However, even Luke would say that it was 99.9 percent Andre.... In comparison, I'm a toddler sitting in a sandpit eating my own poo. I never had kids but I have three nephews who I'm very proud of. Andre is like my fourth.... hope you enjoy PS this guitar is only 9500.00 inc Hiscox case

Uncle Johnson's Famous String goo...With the help of friend Suzie S, The Goo with a "gazzillion uses" is finally back in stock..... this time in an extra big "you'll never need another" bottle edition..... 35.00 for my FB friends..... This is what we use in the workshop for everything from fretboard conditioning, electrical cleaning but most of all; it's original purpose.....string cleaner/ preserver...
