It is called the Signature Banquet for a reason.

Eight of our most loved dishes, served together. Ora King Salmon, Crispy Eggplant, Scallop and Prawn Dumpling, Corn-Fed Chicken Siu Mai, Shandong Crispy Skin Chicken, Yang Zhou Fried Rice, Steamed Asian Greens and an Oyster to start.

No spoilers just yet. This Sunday, Sunday Service grows a little grander. Each month we will add a signature Sunday dish to the table, ours alone and found here only on a Sunday. And for dessert, a weekly special we are calling the Sunday Sundae, a new one to try every week. The Bloody Mary Cart, as always, doing the rounds. Keep an eye out to see what is coming. We have always thought of Marlowe as more of a home than a building. It was one, once. Built in 1938, this was Merivale Flats, eight apartments over three floors in the heart of South Brisbane. People lived here, cooked here, leaned on the sills and watched the day go by. A wartime shelter went up on the side by Fish Lane, and those same walls hold our bar today. Marlowe lives in four of those old apartments now, two below and two above. You can feel it the moment you reach the door. Come and sit a while in a place that has always been lived in.

We’re adding a selection of exclusive food specials to our Sunday Service lunch menu. Available only on Sundays, only at Marlowe, and only for as long as you can get a table. We’ll be announcing the details very soon.

Not many bars began as an air raid shelter.

Ours did. Built onto the side of the old Merivale Flats sometime in the early 1940s, it has spent the decades since accumulating character. For a long time it was Paladar, a cigar lounge that South Brisbane still remembers fondly. The sign is still on the brick outside if you know where to look.

Now it is where we pour drinks. Stand at the bar long enough and the view through into the dining room, once somebody’s bedroom, tells you everything you need to know about this place.

We have a thing for pastry.

There is the Braised Duck Pie, served on a bed of radicchio jam with jus poured tableside. And there is the Coral Trout Wellington, finished with a caviar butter sauce. Special occasion food that somehow also manages to feel like home.

Both have quietly become the dishes people plan their visits around. Order one, order both. Stay a while.
