🫶🏻︎Heartfelt moment🫶🏻︎
Today, this gentleman and his wife came in for lunch. Before they left, he came back inside and told us that our shop has been their regular stop every time they drive through Cardwell since we opened over five years ago.
He still remembers little Sol serving customers while the other three kids were running around and playing in the shop.
Apparently, they stopped by one evening last week and, for the first time in five years, saw all four kids helping out. He couldn't believe how much they had grown. Not only Sol, but Tai, Koa, and Dea were all pitching in during a busy night. He complimented them on what wonderful kids they are.
That conversation led me to look through all our old photo albums from when we first started the business. 📸
OMG! they were so little! All the memories came flooding back.
I used to carry Dea on my back while running around the kitchen, and I'm pretty sure I bumped her head into things more times than I'd like to admit. 😬
We had this little man serving customers when we got busy, and despite his age, he did an amazing job. Sol was only 7 years old!
Tai and Koa would run around the shop after school, just like normal kids do.
What many people don't know is how many unkind comments I received from some customers about having our kids at the shop. I cried over those comments more times than I can count.
I felt guilty making them stay at the shop late while their friends were at the playground or spending quality time with their families.
But throughout those years, we were blessed with incredible friends and loyal customers who always had our backs. Some would happily keep an eye on the kids or take them to their homes when needed, and local mums would take them to the playground or the beach. Even today, some mums still take our kids out for a little play after school.
As Terry and I don't have family nearby, I am incredibly grateful for all the help we've received, and for the people who have watched our children grow up and shared those special moments with us. ❤️
I love hearing our regular customers say, "I remember when they were this little..."
It's like our kids have dozens of honorary aunties, uncles, and grandparents who visit the shop every week. 🥰
I'm also grateful that this community has allowed us to run our business the way we do — as a family, with our kids involved every step of the way.
Our two youngest have now "graduated" from their babysitter, the kids call the time with her, "Kathy Daycare" and have stepped into helping with the family business on busy Friday nights.
Now we literary run a family business together with all four kids!
We couldn't be prouder of them. ❤️
