Larrikin- a quintessential Australian slang term for a mischievous, high-spirited person who acts with a careless disregard for social conventions

I got a chance to sit down today to have a chat with the Fri vet crew
Ive come to the conclusion
We just give each other s**t
Why is this good for our mental health you ask
Because its what we did when we served
Our defence force runs and motivates on that Oz larakinism we our known over the planet for
Its what got us through the hard times, the operations, the cold nights in Pukka, the sweat feasts in Bundy and then loving the good times

To the poor regular customers (themselves to blame coming on a Fri morning ) it would sound like we just talk s**t and take the mick out of each other with the portaloo war stories
But its actually a healing space, a place to be part of a sick tribe, but it works and thats all that matters
To my haters come join us one Fri
See the magic

So I did my yearly watch of Predator
I know it should be quarterly, dont judge
And Yes its my favourite movie ever.......untill
I watch Aliens next month and then declare that the best
Its a weird thing Ive done since that ultimate 1989 sleepover where i watched them both on VHS for first time and never decided which is best

Now im gonna upset the applecart here
After watching it over 100 times I think Jessie Ventura as Blaine is cooler than Arnie in it and shouldnt of died so early in the movie,so we get more of him to watch

In my city
In my Lyons Ward with my fellow councillors
On the 48th year as an Independant Territory
I got to watch the N.T flag get raised over parliment and witness the latest Ozzies become official citizens
You wanna see how good multiculturism works
Come join the greatest Territory in Oz
Grab a box of fireworks while u at it

Happy Territory Day brus

I love the 70/80s prints that scared the s**t out of us at nans house
Always a big jesus pic or cross looking at us in the dark
My favourite is the J.H Lynch set of beautiful spanish women still scary
But today lets talk about the Crying Boy
Italian artist Bruno did 65 prints of kids upset in the 60s
This one was mass produced in Europe and cheap to buy from all shops
In the mid 80s there was lots of media attention about this pic being cursed
Supposedly there was lots of house fires in the U.K where this picture was the only thing to not be burnt
Rumours spread of the devil child
However it was stated the pic was painted with fire retardant vanish
Who remembers this picture ?
Who believes the curse of the crying boy

Im fresh back from Canberra and defrosted
I want to do a post and show u how good the War musuem is
However I thought I share with you our purpose of being down that way
You would of seen lots of cool photos from all your councils in jumpers, jackets and suits with pollies
ALGA is the national local government crew
They host a 3 day event each year
538 councils around the country attend
We had some great sessions day 1 from emergency responce to managing rates to learning people are leaving big cities for regional towns
Big lesson our population is growing and we need development if we like it or not (be nice)
We had 2000 person voting sessions
240 motions were debated and voted on
From getting more funding for pools to national policies on getting more housing, it was fun to be involved
We all got the chance to meet our federal pollies to explain what we as councils need and yes give us more funding please
It was finished by a great dinner where we got to meet so many cool people to network with
It was an honour to be representing the people of Darwin and we bonded well with our other N.T councils

My favourite comment from a speaker....
Local government is the frontline of democracy

I was so impressed by the Australian War Musuem
I got lots of photos and will do another post to share how great it is for you

However I have to talk about this quilt
All 5/7 RAR INTERFET family members got to make this big blanket 27 years ago for us
As I spent 15 mins looking for my name and the piece made by my mum
I seen so many friends, legends and national heros that I served with and sadly the ones we lost
I got very emotional
What an honour to be part of this place and history with some of my best mates on the wall with me
