Happy Plate Kitchen is back! 🌱
Season 2 opening Night · Friday 13 November

After a few months off, we’re itching to get cooking again! Time overseas has left us refreshed, inspired and full of ideas, and we can’t wait to share another season with you.

Our new team is coming together, the menus are taking shape, and—with plenty of help from our community—we’ve been busy making the space even more welcoming. There are seedlings in the ground, plans to grow more of our own veggies, and a new sound system ready for a season of live music.

If you haven’t joined us before, Happy Plate brings together three things we care about: opportunities for young people, wholesome food made from scratch, and a place for our local community to gather.

Expect generous, flavourful meals, familiar faces and new friends, with youth musicians, entertainment and family activities throughout the season. Come for dinner and a catch-up, bring the kids, or simply grab takeaway on your way home. Everyone’s welcome.

Meet our Happy Plate face!

Our Happy Plate face was a playful, colourful little collaboration with our dear friend and local artist, Alice Linford Forte. 💛

Alice grew up in Margaret River and has spent years travelling the world, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, colours and cultures she’s encountered along the way. While she’s best known for her expressive oil paintings exploring nature, emotion and imagination, this project took her in a different direction — into the world of hand-drawn veggies, spices and watercolour!

We had so much fun bringing this one to life together. There were ideas flying, plenty of opinions, lots of colour and a whole lot of creativity. Each little element was hand-painted, with Alice bringing our vision to life in her own playful way. And just like that, our Happy Plate face was born!
No AI here, just good old-fashioned creativity, paint and collaboration.

One of the things we genuinely love about Happy Plate is getting to create alongside people in our community who are passionate about what they do. Everyone brings their own ideas, skills and little bit of magic, and it’s all these pieces coming together that make Happy Plate what it is.

A big love-filled thank you to Alice for jumping into this creative project with us. We absolutely love our colourful little face, and we’re pretty excited to see where else it might pop up!

A dream coming to life 🌱
Our new garden beds are here, and they’re even more beautiful than we imagined.

Built by Jake Egland Carpentry and his youth crew, they were designed not only for growing food, but also to create extra seating, especially for older community members who may find it difficult to sit on the grass.

We’re so excited to begin growing our own herbs and bringing the garden-to-kitchen dream at Happy Plate to life.

This project was made possible through a generous grant from Holyoake, and through the leadership, passion and incredible support of coordinator Haley Lawrence. Haley, we truly couldn’t have done this without you.

A huge thank-you also to Zepha Rose for the hard work of filling the garden beds and helping bring them to life.

From an idea on paper to soil in the garden—this is what community looks like. Now it’s time to plant. 🌿

We don’t just make food.
We’re part of something bigger.

It starts with an ecosystem —
the people who grow, the local produce we source,
the care behind every choice.

We may not grow it ourselves (yet — watch this space 👀)
but we choose to support the people who do.

What we source shapes what we create.
What we create shapes how we feel.
And how we feel shapes how we live.

When food is meaningful,
it doesn’t just nourish us —
it influences the choices we make every day.

And those choices ripple outward —
back into the food, the community, the ecosystem.

It’s not just a plate.
It’s a cycle 🌿🔄

This is the Happy Plate Cycle.

We’re sitting here at 4:30 on a Friday… and for the first time in months, we’re not rushing into service.
Just feeling it.
Grateful. Proud. A little bit in disbelief.
Six months ago this was just an idea — a dream of a youth-powered, community-driven kitchen bringing people together around nourishing, flavourful food.

On Friday service… it came to life in a way we couldn’t have imagined.
Over 200 people. 185 plates sold, down to the last grain of rice. Youth bands, youth stalls, youth running the kitchen — absolutely smashing it.
At one point we just stopped and looked around…“What have we created here?”

This season has been full — long days, hard physical work, learning curves, and a lot of unknowns. And also… connection, growth, and something that feels deeply meaningful.
To the young crew — watching you step up, take ownership, and grow in confidence has been one of the greatest rewards.
To everyone who came, ate, danced, supported, shared a moment with us — you made this what it is.

We’ll take a short winter pause, but we’re not disappearing. Pop-ups, brunches, and special moments will still happen when the weather plays along.
If you felt something here — please leave us a Google review (link in bio), or send us ideas on how to make this even better by DM or email [email protected].

This was just the beginning.
We’ll be back next season — stronger, clearer, and ready to build something even deeper with you.
