The Tasmanian Greens are calling for a statewide ban on single-use plastics, including the iconic fish-shaped soy sauce containers.

Greens waste spokesperson Helen Burnet said the tiny plastic bottles, recently outlawed in South Australia, were symbolic of the damage caused by disposable plastics.

"Single-use plastics make up a third of the waste in our streets and waterways, doing untold harm to our wildlife," she said.

Environment Minister Madeleine Ogilvie said the government was developing a roadmap to phase out plastics, with a consultation report and draft bill due later this year.

Well done SA! Its been 7 years since we sold any plastic packaging here at sush.

Irony is - the soy fish was originally designed to be a re-usable soy bottle! A single soy fish contains enough sauce for a regular sushi meal.

Every August, the streets of Aomori glow with the magic of the Nebuta Festival 🏮👹

Massive lantern floats shaped like warriors, gods, and mythical creatures parade through the city. They are handcrafted from washi paper, carefully painted and lit from within. Each one takes months to complete and reflects generations of tradition.

Surrounded by dancers, taiko drums, and the sound of celebration, this is one of Japan’s most powerful summer sights.

Here’s something you might not expect—cold rice can be better for your blood sugar than warm rice.

When rice cools after cooking, it forms resistant starch, which your body digests more slowly. That means less of a spike in blood sugar.

And guess what? Sushi rice is typically served cool or at room temperature, making it a surprisingly smart option if you're watching your energy levels.

Just another reason to love sushi 🤍

Classic Tassie - Hobart city batons down the hatches with park closures today, like Tokyo in a Typhoon - take care everyone & stay safe! 🌀 🌬️ 🏔️ 🚧

💨 We're battening down the hatches ahead of the severe weather forecast for Saturday, expected to hit Hobart in the afternoon.

🔒 St Davids Park, Princes Park, Waterworks Reserve and the Upper Queens Domain will all be closed from 8am on Saturday 19 July until it is safe to re-open them.

🏃💨 ParkRun on the Queens Domain has been cancelled.

🤕 Our biggest concern is falling tree limbs and branches. We want to help keep you safe.

Tasmania SES is encouraging people to be prepared and informed, with the potential for damaging and locally destructive winds.

💨 Wind gusts could reach 110 km/h.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
✅ Supervise children closely.
✅ Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
✅ Manage pets and livestock.
✅ Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
✅ Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
✅ Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
✅ Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
✅ For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
