Ever wonder why we call it "High Tea"?
☕️ You might be surprised to learn that what we enjoy today was originally called **Afternoon Tea**!
Back in the 1840s, the Duchess of Bedford got a 4:00 PM "sinking feeling" between meals and started snacking on delicate treats at low parlor tables. Meanwhile, true "High Tea" was actually a heavy, hearty meal served to the working class at high dining tables after a long day in the fields and factories! 🤯
Over time, the word "High" sounded fancy, and the name stuck.
Want to brush up on your tea etiquette before your next visit to Devon Pixies? Here are our top tips:
🫖 **Pinkies IN:** Keep that pinky tucked! Sticking it out is actually a tea-time myth and historically considered a bit rude.
🥄 **The 6-to-12 Stir:** Don't make a whirlpool! Place your spoon at 6 o'clock and gently fold your tea back and forth to the 12 o'clock position.
🥪 **Bottoms Up:** Always start at the bottom tier of your stand (the savouries and sandwiches) and work your way up to the sweets!
🍓 **Break, Don't Cut:** Never use a knife to slice your scone. Gently break it apart with your hands. (And since we are *Devon* Pixies, we fully endorse the Devonshire method: Cream first, then Jam! 😉)
