Stelo at Pierre’s brings Tasmanian produce through a modern Italian lens to one of Launceston’s most historic dining rooms. Led by Lauren and Nathan, Stelo is built around handmade pasta, seasonal produce, generous flavour, thoughtful wine and service that is polished, warm and proudly Tasmanian. Our menu celebrates local growers, fishers and producers from Tasmanian Wagyu and coastal seafood to o

rganically grown vegetables, burrata, sourdough focaccia, gnocchi and tiramisu. Alongside our à la carte menu, a weekly five-course tasting menu reflects what is best, rare or fleeting in the season. Set on George Street, Stelo spans two grand dining rooms, a bar, lounge and private dining space, with locally crafted leather banquettes, Tasmanian oak, crisp linen and a warm, intimate atmosphere. First established in 1956, Pierre’s Café and Brasserie became part of Launceston’s story when it welcomed Australia’s first commercial espresso machine. Seventy years on, Stelo continues that legacy with a modern Italian restaurant that is proudly local, elegant and full of life.

Lunch deserves a little ceremony.

A proper table. A warm room. Handmade pasta. Tasmanian produce. Good wine, if the day allows, and some days are very persuasive.

At Stelo, lunch is not dinner’s understudy. It has its own rhythm.

It can be quick, elegant and back-to-work responsible.
It can be long, loose and “let’s not rush the tiramisu.”
It can be a client lunch, a birthday lunch, a Friday lunch, or simply the very civilised act of leaving the office to eat something made with care.

We cook with Tasmanian produce through an Italian lens, in dining rooms that have been part of Launceston’s story for nearly 70 years.

So here is our invitation:

Make lunch a little more generous again.

Daytime at Stelo is growing.

With Claire Smith joining us as our Lunch and Corporate Trade Manager, we are looking forward to welcoming more weekday lunches, client meetings, private dining bookings and corporate celebrations. As well as a warm cosy spot for an afternoon coffee or a cocktail.

Whether it is a quiet lunch for two, a team lunch, or a private room for a focused meeting, we would love to help you host it beautifully.

Drop Claire a line on [email protected] for your enquiries.

On this day 6 years ago, during the COVID lockdowns, we moved to a takeaway model and kept going.
These photos of our girls with fish and chips are a beautiful reminder of the strength, adaptability, and resilience it took to get through such an uncertain time. We dug deep, stayed flexible, and kept showing up.
Looking back, I am so proud of how far we have come. The hardest seasons really do reveal the strongest people.
Here’s to hanging in there, supporting each other, and never giving up
